10 days!!!!! not happening...the countdown is on again - Page 2

I'm so sorry, Karen. But of course you know it's better for him to stay there a few more days if he really needs to be there. I will send him some A&B-free thoughts and hope that your next update is the good news!

I'm so sorry. I remember how frustrating that was.

I'm so sorry. I think the last couple weeks are the hardest.

(((Karen)))

I'm so sorry!! I remember holding my breath everytime I called in for an update because I was sure that Evan would've had a bad night and we would be set back for discharge. I promise it won't be much longer and you'll have your sweet little guy at home with you.

I'm so sorry--I remember how aggravating it was starting that countdown again and again...

Hang in there...what helped me is to pick a date farther out (maybe a month out?) and figure that if ds came home before then, I was still ahead of the game...

The bradying is brutal, I know...

Soon, soon, soon...

Can you add caffine to your diet?

Oh poop.

Sorry your countdown had to restart, I know how much you were looking forward to getting him home.

Fingers and toes crossed for you.

He's doing well...nothing since then (knock on wood)...one of the nurses noted that it was the day of his second eye exam, and that babies often have episodes afterwards. hmmm....

His weight gain has slowed a bit...he has been hovering around 4 14 for the past week. His reflux has been pretty bad, but he is on meds for it. I think his weight is plateauing a bit since he was gaining so fast before. And he is breastfeeding around the clock now, so he is spending more energy on that. i just hope he has some decent gains over the nexxt couple of days so that they'll let us take him home on thursday!

If he can go home on a monitor, will they let him come home?
they've never talked about sending him home on a monitor, nor have i seen them send a baby home on a monitor during the six weeks we've been here. i just don't think it's something they do here.

i was wondering if that helps or not. I have been drinking a fair bit of caffeine, but it's to keep myself awake :P

When our girls were on caffeine, the nurses told me feel free to have some coffee or whatever, because it can only help. But then if he has reflux issues, caffeine can exacerbate that. Frustrating! I hope he continues to do well and can come home very soon.

i am at the coffee pub across the road - i needed to get out of the hospital. they've got free wireless here.

arggh!!! yesterday, Asher had an episode while he was nursing we're pretty sure it was related to the giant booger we found in his nose afterwards, so they probably won't count it as a true brady...but then he had THREE in a row this morning when i was nursing him ...he has also been spitting up like CRAZY, so they're doing a blood culture to rule out an infection. his temp is fine, though. they wonder if it is still my over-abundant supply of milk, but because they were pretty bad episodes in a row, i'm guessing they will count them as true bradys and hold us up another four days (it's been that long since his last episode). he gained 5 grams yesterday - so not very much, but at least he's not losing.

i am getting so frustrated. i really don't know how much longer i can do this. i just want my baby to be home. i just want my family to be together.

Oh Karen....((((hugs))))

The week before Evan was discharged I truly felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown just from the sheer frustration of still being in the hospital with no end in sight. We dealt with many, many brady's during feedings which is what ended up holding us up for the last 7-10 days. I would say those brady's aren't as worrisome as the ones not associated with feedings because they are more coordination issues rather than true apnea, yk? Anyway, I feel your frustration and pain and I hope Asher can come home quickly. What meds is he taking for reflux?

Karen, I'm so sorry.

I really would pressure them on going home on a monitor. If the only thing keeping him there is the A&Bs, then there's no reason at all that he shouldn't be able to come home with a monitor. They make you take a training class to teach you CPR and show you what to do if there's an episode.
