August 07 twins! - Page 24

Thanks! It really was a fabulous journey both times and a wonderful thing I'm very proud to have done it twice!

I'm sorry clancy! My OB was totally fine with me going as long as I wanted to. I would have continued to go past where I did if it wasn't for the fear of a c-section with the section happy doctors on call. I was having BPP/NSTs but they were all totally fine and reassuring. Once I started dialating and was past a 4, I knew that an induction should be pretty easy as I'd had one before. I felt like having the induction was worth it to be pretty sure I'd avoid a c-section. Having to do it again, I don't know if I'd pick induction again...but what are the chances I'll carry twins again...not likely! LOL

I never had to see a peri or 'specialist' while I was pregnant with the twins. We don't have one here as it's a small town, and my OBs take on it was that I wasn't high risk until something happened to show him that I was. That never happened....so I wasn't seen as a high risk case.

My OB said he would only get concerned if I went over 40 weeks. And I don't think this was just because of twins. In none of my previous pregnancies have I gone post-dates and I think he just thought that I really shouldn't with two since I hadn't before and also since the babies were getting so big and really I wanted a vaginal birth!

I too think that if the placenta wasn't functioning, labor would begin, however, does it work that way with two when one is still functioning? I don't know!

I think if you're still comfy carrying them and all looks reassuring on the NST/BPP's....why push delivery?? If it were me, I'd go with the BPP/NSTs for reassurance that everything is okay and just keep on trucking! They can't stay in forever And more than likely, they'll be here within a week or two

thank you Crunchy, you make me feel better. the only reason i found myself in the peri's office is that they are the only ones here who do the NSTs. if i could have had one elsewhere i would have been there in a flash. the place i went for u/s which was calm and normal doesn't do them. my regular backup OB is ok and certainly not as bad as today's witch. perinatologists are definitely bad for me. i hate fearmongering and all they see is disaster and death everywhere!

i don't consider myself high risk and of course the midwives just consider me pregnant and healthy which is a really nice dose of sanity.

i'm really glad to hear that you weren't assaulted with info like this, makes it a lot easier to just put it away and stop either being pissed or fretting about it. if i do continue with more BPPs and NSTs i'll have to figure out how to manage going to the office, it really ruins my day. maybe there is still an alternative that i haven't yet dug up.

thanks...

Can you have the BPP/NSTs at the hospital?? That is where I had mine! Just done by the nurses for NST and then the BPP was down in ultrasound by a regular tech. Then they called my OB and told him the results and I went home. I went and saw him once a week just like regular and he told me things were good on the BPP/NST.

i was at the hospital. all of the hospitals here (outside of W DC) have maternal fetal medicine specialists and they are the ones who do this -- this would likely account for our c-section rate here, i think its up now about 35%, because of these docs who think they know better than anyone's body. and what is normal birth? no such thing to them...

i had my u/s at a private out of hospital practice. it was normal, routine without any of the spasticity of the high risk places and it was heaven...but i haven't yet found a private practice that will do the NST/BPPs.

just another reason to move far away from this silly area and back to the country. that is definitely where i belong.

still here

the mw gave me the ok to try castor oil if i want. i don't know if i want to or not, thinking i might wait til next week, truly 40, and see if they come on their way before then. and then i won't have august babies afterall...
seeing a lot more signs but still nothing serious though we did a check yesterday and am dilating and mostly effaced so something is going on.

made the mistake today of telling my dad that i was planning a hb. its not that its bad that he know but i wasn't going to tell him because i figured he would worry, i figured he could find out after. he took it really well and even said some good things but i think he's going to freak out later. oh well. fortified my mother with information so hopefully she can share with him if he needs support. maybe he'll surprise me and be calm and not freak but that's not likely.

hoping all is good with you and your babies.

Oh Clancy-my OB told me the same thing and couldn't provide research when I asked. He just said it was based on training and experience. I knew my babies were okay. They just needed more time. OB's don't believe moms know anything. I know it's stressful. Hang in there.

Hey clancy, still hanging in there? I went away for the weekend to take care of some family things, but wanted to pop in today and check on you!

still here. 40 wks. considering castor oil but not on board with that completely yet. skipped the ob visit last week because i knew they had nothing new to tell me. visit with mw was reassuring and nice.

i'm definitely ready for them to arrive but they are obstinate, just like ds. gee, can't imagine where they got that from.

thanks for checking on me. i guess they'll arrive someday.

Sounds like things are going great mama I can't WAIT to see how big those babies are! Maybe you'll beat my 14 lbs 3 oz of baby!

Crunchy, I have no real need to surpass you in that, but you may just be right.
Certainly feels like a whole lotta baby, especially when I sit and can plainly see Bert's head sticking up under my tummy skin (she is breech/transverse and sometimes seems to stand straight up).

My son long ago named them Huckle and Bert. We are working on actual names...

Cute names! My kiddos named the twins Nacho and Pinto when I was pregnant! I called them 'belly beans' at first and then my 7 yo decided Pinto Bean was one and then the other needed a name, but he didn't like any of the kinds of beans his big brother suggested and so decided that since it wasn't our babies...Nacho Baby was the other one--as in "Not Yo Baby"! It worked well as we didn't know the sexes until birth. Kids are so cute

I'm guessing they're going to be close to 8 lbs each hehehe There is a gal I knew online who had hers right at term and one was 8.5 and the other 9.5! HOLY HECK!

huckle and burt have arrived

water broke spontaneously on saturday 9/8 at 3 am, labor began at 3:30 am.
huckle was born vaginally at home at about 7:15 am but immediately after i hemorrhaged badly and burt did not descend quickly enough to stay home.
it took a rotten trip in an ambulance (leaving my house at a time when everyone in the neighborhood was up and walking to their cars, so much for anything approximating privacy) and a c-section with general anesthesia and all of the hysteria of mainstream tv for burt to be born about 40 min later (i think).

their real names are willow riley and kiera scarlett. willow was 8 lbs 4 oz and kiera was 8 lbs 5 oz...yes, thats 16.5 lbs of baby.

kiera was rushed to the super high risk nicu because her respiration wasn't great and there was meconium so i haven't even seen her. willow stayed with me at the first hospital w/o being admitted (this pissed off the medicos) and she and i came home yesterday evening. dh has spent most of his time with kiera at the other hospital and i hope to see her and nurse her today. she seems to be pulling through with positive feedback but its been excruciating to be separated (as some of you know well).

i hope everyone else is doing well and that my whole new family will be together soon.
