Heidi, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Without your diligence and determination (even through a very emotional meeting for you) this would still be a barrier.

THANK YOU!

Thanks for all your hard work!

I have just moved to Florida and on my journey to LM licensure. This has been a very helpful discussion. I'm just wandering if anyone is offering the 4-month prelicensure course and where I can find details on it.

Thanks, Cindi

Cindi, are you a CNM?

If you should contact the council in Tallahassee. Here's the website: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/Mqa/midwifery/index.html It will be a bit different for you, but I know that at least one CNM has also become an LM.

Specifically, you could speak to Char Lynn Daughtry who sits on the council and works at Labor of Love in Dunedin.

As far as the 4 month course goes, I don't think any school is currently offering it, but perhaps enough comments to the council that it should be offered would help.

Good luck!

ETA: You might also check out the Temporary Certification for an area of Critical Need, which includes almost all of Florida! That might be a good start.

One of the midwives on FL friends of midwives said that she has a student that is just getting ready to challenge the 4 month course license requirement. If she passes than she will be the first.

LM Endorsement Journey

What a mess all this is...... still.......

*Called the Florida LM board today to inquire about endorsement in FL from another state with active CNM license. Was told 1st step is: the 4 month course and to call FSTM because they are hoping to have the 4 month course in January.
*Called FSTM to sign up for the 4 month course and was told I need to have my US midwifery training credentials reviewed by IAC
*Called IAC- they don't have the "new tool" yet to evaluate my credentials but would call the state to get it (they been requesting it since July).

Needless to say I'm here wanting to work and can't get through the process
I refuse to give up and practice as a "medwife" in the hospital setting although I just got my ARNP-CNM for Florida last week. Most of my CNM experience is OOH and that's my passion, but it's virtually impossible in my area to practice as a CNM outside the hospital. Unless of course I can find a DENTIST or other MD to "supervise" me.

Just wandering if the student challenged this 4-month course? and I'd love to hear if anyone has sucessfully made it through this endorsement process??

Thanks Cindi

I'm sorry Cindi. This is some of the red tape Heidi was hoping to help potential midwives avoid. Please keep fighting. I would recommend that you call CharLynn Daughtry or Jennie Joseph. If you can't find their numbers, PM me and I can give them to you.
