WAP membership worth it?

For those of you who are members - is it worth the $$? I could see it would be if there's a local chapter - but what if you're pretty sure there isn't?
TIA

I think it's worth it. I got one for Christmas and just got my first edition of the "Wise Traditions" quarterly mag. From what I've read (and I've only made it to the first article) it's filled with lots of useful information. Usually for me a magazine only lasts for an hour of reading - tops. This will take me quite a bit longer to get through.

You also get a shopping guide and an intro brochure at first. I do know on the most recent subscription forms they ask for a local chapter leader, but I think that's just for tracking purposes a none of the actual membership money goes to the local chapter.

I had intended to join for a while but I ended up joining about a year ago mainly because of the shopping guide. But the shopping guide is available for $1 or so somewhere online (I recently discovered). You get the journal but the articles get posted online. The journal has ads that are interesting which do not make it to the website. I think the main reason to join would be to support the work of the foundation. I don't actually plan to renew. There are some local food causes that are more deserving and I have a lot of things competing for my dollars right now.

I've been wanting to get a WAP membership as well, but of course its the $$ that is kinda putting it on hold for me right now.
I did contact the WAP leader for my area- but they only meet twice a year- (I was hoping they would meet more). I do want to join- soon hopefully. I think the chapter in the next big city close to us (about hour and a half to two hours) has a more active WAP group, but that is just a little farther than I would like to drive.

I'm a member, and really enjoy getting the quarterly "Wise Traditions" magazine—although the articles get posted, it's nice having a hard copy. Also, members get e-mail alerts from the Foundation, for instance when Organic Pastures held its press conference after the raw milk ban was lifted.

Both DH and I are members and I think they do deserve an annual membership from us. The WAPF site actually started me on the path of eating traditional foods long before I read Nourishing Traditions. Before I joined, I had spent countless hours of research finding local sources of grassfed meats, farm fresh eggs and good produce since I have a really busy schedule. Shortly after joining, I was introduced several sources I didn't find myself including a farmer that drops off orders at a drop off point every two weeks for the local WAPF members.

I admire the foundation on what they are trying to do to further the traditional food/slow food movement. Besides hooking people up with "real" food resources, they really work to advocate everything I believe in -- natural foods, proper food preparation, local food sources, and sustainable farming.

I would have to second Chicarronita - it is very nice to have a hard copy. The articles are posted online, but there is definitely some lag time between when the mag comes out and when the articles are online.

If money were an issue, like it would have been for me minus the Christmas gift, then I think GF's suggestions are a great way to get some of the benefits!
