What are your videogame "rules" if any, or do you not have VGs? - Page 2

No rules or restrictions. My son owns a PS2 and the kids can easily spend a couple of hours on it. They have quite the library of games from the more involved like Final Fantasy and GTA to the lighter ones like Guitar Hero or Ratchet and Clank. It's usually intense for a brand new game and then it eases up some.

My kids go to private school; I just saw this under new posts and was interested.

Same here as at fourlittlebirds' house. We've never had rules about it. When something is new, they play it quite a bit, then it wears off and is just an occassional thing.

My kids have Gameboys; dh has a Gamecube; of course we have the computer! The Gameboys are used once a week average? For an hour maybe, before they go on to something else. Gamecube will go a month or two without being touched, but when it comes out and they remember we have it (it is only out and all hooked up when it is being played - otherwise in the cabinet under the tv), they'll play it every day until I put it away - because I get tired of the wires streaming across the family room...

The computer is used much more in my house. But we've never had to police it much - unless you count setting the timer so the next kid can have a turn without me trying to remember to time it. That doesn't happen often; they can usually work it out themselves.

We don't have a game system or gameboys.

Computer (PC) games: 1/2 hour computer game time/day; an extra 1/2 hour if house jobs are done by 7 pm. An hour on the weekends. No real limit if they have friends over--the kids are off and on.

Not really any TV (no cable here), but "movie night" on the weekends.

My default is to say the PSP is daddy's so no one can touch it when he's not home. I know he won't impose any real limits, unless it runs into meal or bed times (or he wants to play). Computer games, DS1(9yo) only likes dad's games which are on dad's settings-again, limited to dh being home. DD is just not interested really. DS likes games like Zooboomafoo and a Basic Preschool Skill game, which he can play30-45 min a day. DD1 has a gameboy but is often as happy to play D&D and other non screen games.

We don't have any hard and fast rules. It depends on the day, on the kids' mood, etc. Just like TV, I try to keep their game playing in moderation. I will admit, now that it is winter and the kids aren't running around outside for hours everyday, they do get more screen time.
