for those of you who drink whole raw milk for it's nutritional benefits, do you give it to dc when they have a cold with lots of mucus? i would always cut out as much dairy as possible when they were sick, but now i'm just wondering if that's still the wisest way to go.

That depends on whether they're the sort of people who get mucousy when they drink milk. Some people do, some don't. Most don't.

raw dairy doesn't make mucus so it is ok while sick.

I used to drink milk as a young child and stopped at age 8 because it made my throat feel mucous-y. When I have a cold I am still not apt to drink milk. However...I always love yogurt...when I have a cold and even when my stomach is bad that is the only other thing I want besides chicken broth. I guess it depends on the person...if it dosn't make their throat feel mucous-y it's probably fine.

I wonder if (assuming it makes you mucousy) if being more so would be a good thing to "wash out" the virus, or if it would be a bad thing because the virus would have more room to proliferate.
An interesting thing about milk and mucous - I heard (from a welder) that in Germany, they encourage welders to drink milk, because the mucous helps protect thier lungs from the nasty stuff (metal bits and smoke) they breath in.

You know I stopped drinking pastuarized milk because it made me mucousy, especially when I have a cold.
So, fast forward to now. I am soooo glad for raw milk and cream!!!!! At Christmas time I had alittle cold and was craving some raw cream that I just got from the farm. I couldn't stop myself so I made some eggnog with the raw cream and was surprised it made me feel BETTER not worse. I swear my cold went away after drinking the raw cream
