I noticed that too! Makes me want to email sesame street. I also get mad whenever they talk about babies on Elmo's World and they say that when babies are hungry they eat milk and then they show babies with bottles. Hello??? I thought sesame street was diverse?

I saw that, too. I've never seen ANY mention of breastfeeding on Sesame Street. Bottles galore, though.

Baby Bear did talk about how his Mama Bear had to feed the baby, so Papa Bear had to do Baby Bear's bedtime. Maybe Mama Bear is modest, and pumps to give bottles in front of the camera.

I love watching Charmed and when Piper was pg her sisters kept talking about homebirh, etc. and I thought for sure - magical, witch mommy will totally be a great role model.

But nope, baby is in crib almost all the time, when he is held it is NEVER by Piper, and she didn't breastfeed for even one day. Leo goes to feed her and it's "don't forget to sterilize the nipple!"

With Alyssa Milano & the woman who plays Piper producers for the show, I am really tempted to write them a letter.

Grrrrrr

Sad hey! One of the cutest things i saw was when I was working at a Montessori school. A little girl was pretending to bf her doll! Maybe there is some hope out there - even though not much!

I've seen bfing once on SS. Big Bird was watching a mother bf. He said, "That's a funny way to feed a baby". I suppose I should give him some slack, as he is a bird.:

He said, "That's a funny way to feed a baby".

Thus I see again why we don't watch SS in this household. DD can get the TV side of her reading readiness from Between The Lions.

Mr. Rogers rules around here!

That made me so mad too about baby bear. The gilmore girls show once made a pretty rude remark about bf in public. And seventh heaven Ruthie made breastfeeding seem so gross saying I never want to see you feed the twins again. I think the WB is kinda anti nursing. And I don't know how true this is but I once heard that nestle is a sponser for sesame street, which would explain the bottles. It just makes me mad that kids grow up thinking that bottles are the norm because of television.
On a positive note I remember from a while back on Bear in the big blue house when bear was saying that babies nurse but when mommies aren't around they can have someone else feed them with a bottle.

I noticed that too!! You never see her holding the baby *or* the doll; it's like she's afraid of him or something. It's realy sad, and every time I see the show I comment to my mother about it. I think that the baby is actually a breastfed baby, though; the milk in the bottle had left a film all over the inside, just like frozen bm does when you thaw it.

That's lousy--I think I remember that one. However, I am impressed that they have mentioned more than once that Loralai nursed Rory--especially since she was only 16 when she was born.

On a positive note...
I was watching Rugrats with my dd (please forgive me--it was way too early on a Saturday morning and I was still too sleepy to function as a mama...) and the kids were talking about their mothers' favorite mother's day gifts. The twins said it was their first smile, then it flashed back to show them both breastfeeding and popping off with a big grin. I felt like dancing I was so happy!

It's too bad that it's so unusual to see that sort of thing on childrens' tv.

peace, Beth
