What about shammy material?

Would a shammy be a good fabric to make a diaper/soaker/doubler out of? My dh got two 'super shammys' for christmas and I couldn't help but look at them with my cd'ing eyes and imagine the possibilities!

Is this something that is already in use in the cd world or am I just retarted and that would never work? I was thinking of cutting them up... and using them as a stuffer in a pocket dipe... what do you think?

I figured that if I could double the shammy, I could make 6 doublers/soakers out of each one--they came 2 to a set for $5!

I'm gonna try it, just to see!! I won't have a baby to try it on until August, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had ever tried this before?

I had thought the same thing. I got one and washed it repeatedly and it broke down over time. I know microchamois by malden mills is a really populare fleece that is similar. I have some chamois in my biking shorts and yes it did get crunchy after enough rides in it.

After looking closer at this shammy thing, there's a stamp on there that says, "Made in Germany 100% Viscose"...

What is viscose? (I mean, I guess THIS is viscose! LOL!!) but I think this is a different material than the 'moleskin' shammy I remember from when I was little...THOSE got really crispy when they hung to dry, but these, I've run them through the washer & dryer a couple times and they both came out FLUFFIER after washing than they felt before... Of course, they did shrink so the material would need to be pre-shrunk but I think this just may work!

i realize this is a REALLY old post, but a friend of mine wants me to make her some pocket dipes and she asked about using Shammy's. Has anyone done it? Does it work?

i know people have used the yellow microfiber towels they sell for car detailing as inserts... but not sure about viscose or ahatever. however, microfiber should NEVER be against the skin, so if you do try that, make sure it is fully enclosed within the pocket, or sandwhiched between other fabrics for a lay in.
