bfing during a twin pregnancy

My DS is 16mo old, still nurses 24/7, just started solids 3 months ago. He doubled solids last month and still nurses the same. I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins. I have gained ZERO pounds and actually lost all the fat in my butt, arms, legs, face, etc. My body is working overtime to grow 2 babies (not very well obvsiously) and still BF my son. My goal was minimum 2 years of bfing him and let him self wean. On advice from my CNM midwife, I should start weaning him.

I don't want to wean him, but I'm torn between growing 2 healthy babies as well! The better I grow them, the longer they'll stay in. So what do I do? Should I just wean him during the day as much as I can? Is day weaning easier than night weaning? I won't do formula - not safe here and not a good option anyway. We can get pasteurized goats milk. Should I try giving him that during the day? I absolutely HATE even saying the word WEAN.

Any advice, encouragement, suggestions welcome.

Personally I would not wean him, but I would really really work on excellent nutrition for you.

I would probably wean (I'm had ptl though), but slowly while working on upping your fat/calories. You're looking at needing I'm guessing at least 1000 extra calories a day than what you should be eating normally and 85+ g of protein. This can be hard to do even w/out nursing, but especially w/. Has your milk dried up any? Sage and peppermint teas can help w/ that if you wanted to help him along. Night weaning IMO is easier, but AJ (my normal child, lol) slept through the night at 7 mos. I would try and put coconut/olive oil in about everything you can and be sure to eat protein like it's going out of style. I was shown how much protein was in foods and portion sizes etc during my last pgcy and it's amazing how much protein I don't eat (I'm dairy, soy, egg free) sometimes. Good luck and congrats on the babies!
