Biting

My DS is 7 months old. We have had an uneventful bf relationship so far. However, a few weeks ago, he cut his two bottom teeth, so ever since it's been OUCH! It only happens as he is latching on. However, sometimes it hurts so bad that I don't react well.

I have been to Kellymom and tried the tips about getting him to open his mouth wider, but it has not helped. I really need help, because if this keeps happening, I might have to go to the bottle!

I have had the same trouble when her bottom teeth came out and now with the top teeth it is even worse.

I have experimented with different positions and it definately makes a difference. In certain positions (lying down and rugbyhold) she seems to not hurting me at all.

I have also once used teething jel on my breast about 5 minutes before. Helped as well. Might give that a try.

Hope it gets better for you.

We went through the same thing and honestly, it just disappeared once the teeth came through all the way. He was bitting as he latched on, then the pain would disappear during the session as he corrected his latch.

Now we're onto top teeth and its the same, a little worse because the bottom two are there also so I'm being bitten top and bottom now. So far I'm just enduring it because its not an opening his mouth wider kind of thing, its about covering his teeth with his tongue when he latches. I think most of the biting advice is aimed at biting for a reaction, or biting at the end/during a session. They often say break the latch, or set baby down and resume nursing later. Well, frankly, if I break the latch whenever he bites, then he, um, just bites me more often because its only while he's latching on. Sorry, this is getting muddled. I'm sure someone else has better advice for you. Just sympathy here.
