Has anyone used ING for their savings account before? How would you rate them?

I've not used them...yet, but I'm seriously considering switching to ING or HSBC for our checking account.

I don't know if you listen to talk radio, but I LOVE Clark Howard, the financial advisor, and he has a lot of good stuff to say about ING.

His site is www.clarkhoward.com .

ING is great. It's super easy to move money to and from a linked checking account and interest rates are much higher than most other banks offer.

With all that said, we recently switched our savings account to another bank - Emigrant Direct, because they offer the same advantages of ING and with an even higher interest rate. (e.g. as I write this, ING's interest rate is 4.50% and Emigrant's is 5.05%)

Either way, you're doing much better than with a regular bank.

The only negative is that they don't have a brick-and-mortar establishment. I think for regular savings (FDIC insured, too!!) it's a great thing. The only other negative I can think of is transfer lag of up to 4 days. If you need the money RIGHT NOW, it could be more difficult to get. Personally, we prefer money market savings, which earns a few tenths of a percent more. Less flexibility with MMMF, though.

Another ING fan here, it's great! The interest rate is good, and I find it very easy to use. We have 5 accounts for different things and it is so easy to transfer money in/out. The lag time is the only issue at all, and I have never had to have the $ in less than 3 days, so it hasn't been a problem for us.
