Dead tissue coating part of nipple

At least, I think that's what's going on. Thursday I came down with mastitis, and soon after my nipple on that breast started looking blistery, like many tiny blisters. Now it looks as though there is a layer of dead tissue on the end of the nipple, at least, that's all I can figure out that it might be. Milk still comes through the affected area, so it's not a bleb or a bunch of blebs. It's extremely painful though. Has anyone seen anything like this? Can anyone give me some insight? I have some photos, if you truly think you might know something about this I can email them. Thanks for any help!

Turned out to be thrush when that happened to me. Call your doc or midwife maybe, and get some APNO (all purpose nipple ointment). Good luck

Do you normally have dry skin? I have some flaky dead skin on one nipple that I can only assume is dry skin because it desn't hurt at all.

The pain, though, that sounds like something I'd want checked out.

Nope, I don't usually have dry skin. And it's not really like dry skin, it's like many layers of skin that are still moist and stuck to the nipple. Really gross.

I had it checked out by a lactation consultant, she had never seen or heard of such a thing. So I'm hoping one of you might have had a similar experience or know a little more than she did!
