Have you ever tried the hillbilly housewife $45 a week menu?

Have you every tried the http://hillbillyhousewife.com $45 a week or any of their other meal planners? Or any other? How was it? Easy? Did it work? We desperately need to save $$ and one way is to cut our exceptionally high grocery bills (no - we almost never eat out). Any advice? Help!

I have never tried that one but I do use the Vegetarian version of Savingdinner.com and my grocery bill is about $60 a week for the 6 serving menu. Leftovers are lunch the next day. And that included milk and cereal for breakfast. I add meat to two meals a week. Usually Polish Sausage or roasted chicken. if not hubby would revolt. LOL

I looked over the menu on there and it looks very southern inspired which tends to be a bit cheaper than a heavy meat based menu.

No, we haven't tried it. It looks interesting though. We need to start doing a more detiled menu plan and stick to it.

The only problem I have with it is that it really relies heavily on dairy, PB, and a few other things that we don't eat in our house due to food allergies...

The appropriate substitutes are $$$$ vs powdered milk and PB in a big jar. BUT the menu doesn't look all that bad if you really need to save the $.

The $70 menu looks a bit better tome, I could work with it vs. the $45.

We havent tried the whole menu--but I've tried several items on it, like creamed tuna and peas (so so), lentil soup and dumplings, batter bread and some others. I REALLy like her Rapid White Bread recipe for the bread machine and lentil and rice tacos (I think these are in her recipe archive, not actually on the 45$ menu). My DH loves meat so we couldn't do this whole menu. However I think if you need to buckle down, it looks decent enough for a week. SHe plans snacks and everything, so I don't think it would leave you too hungry.
Like a PP said the 70$ menu looks good, too!
