Acrobatics while nursing

Please tell me this is just a phase.

I usually nurse my 8-month-old lying down because it's just before naptime & it's easier that way.

Lately, though, when he's just in the mood for a "snack," he's taken to trying to flip all around while latched on. While my nipples are not overly sensitive & it doesn't hurt (yet!), I can't get him to stop doing it! When he gets going, I try to pull his legs in toward me & flip him back so he's lying on his side. Meanwhile, he's still latched on and giggling all the way.

I love nursing him lying down & don't want to have to change favorite positions just because of this.

Any suggestions? Is this just a new thing that he'll get over soon?

My daughter, Micah, almost 18 months, has been an active nurser since before her first birthday. When she nurses straddling my lap and facing me, she likes to "pop" from my left breast to my right and back. I have never been able to figure out her pattern but she always knows when to switch. I think the motion calms her but it was hard to get used to. I remember thinking, "Where did my sweet and calm nurser go?".

I, too, like to nurse laying down because it is restful for me too. I started telling her that we were going to "nap and nurse". We stumbled across this book in the library called "Mama Mama" and on page 2 it shows a mama tiger nursing a baby tiger. They are laying down together. So, we used that book to talk about how "nap and nurse" meant laying down together without all the wiggles and side to side thing. It has worked for us - when we are nursing in bed she knows she has to lay down. Good luck!

You can encourage nursing manners. I allow Abby to do pretty much whatever she wants at home, but no acrobatics or jacking up my shirt in public. Abby's favorite position (well one of them) is when I nurse her in a chair, she will stick her butt in my face. She is 16 months.

Oh, so it gets more interesting?!

I've never nursed beyond 15 months, so I hope I'm able to encourage manners as we go.

The gym-nurse-tics started w/our DS when he was around 11mo. He's 20mo now and still does it (although not as much when lying down)

for an 8mo, I would say just keep doing what you're doing...and hang in there!

Is this just a new thing that he'll get over soon? Sorry but no it started as soon as ds learned to crawl at 5 months and we've never stopped and I don't expect it to for a while. Sometimes I wonder how he even manages to nurse I don't find it too irritating - yet, just a part of our nursing relationship really, and I guess i quite like it really - i must be mad - ha ha.:
