Glasses - cheap and fast

My daughter has worn contacts for two years now, and loves them, so when her glasses broke over the summer we didn't worry about it. She puts the contacts in as soon as she gets up, takes them out just before bed, so it didn't seem necessary to replace the glasses.

She is getting ready to leave on a mission trip to the Gulf Coast in ten days, to help with flood clean-up and reconstruction. I would like to get her a pair of glasses before she goes - she may never wear them, but I think it would be good for her to have them just in case.

They will be worn very rarely, so needless to say I don't want to put much money in them. Her prescription is good, so we don't need an exam, just glasses - cheap and fast. I'm going to make some phone calls in a couple of hours when places are open, but I was hoping someone here would give me an idea on where to start. Thanks!

If her prescription is simple then she most likely won't have a problem. Do you have eye insurance? Perle Vision has done a nice job for me in the past. With my insurance, my last pair was free. They are totally no frills, but I like them much better than the ones I paid big bucks for. Also try Lenscrafters. Some Giant Eagle's now have optical centers as do Walmarts. You could call there and see what they offer.

I got an awesome backup pair at www.39dollarglasses.com last year. They came super fast, the prescription is perfect and they look great. I was really pleased. They aren't my main pair, its just that i wear my glasses the way your dd wears her contacts (read: *always*) and I need to have a backup pair. this was the most affordable way to do it. Next time my prescription changes, I will likely go through them for my main pair as well.

HTH and good luck to your dd...that sounds like an exciting trip.

We needed glasses ASAP and for cheap too and Sears worked great for us. They have coupons you can print online at their site, I think one is frames and lenses for $99!

Just FYI: If you have Triple A, you get a 30% discount at Lenscrafters and Perle Vision...and I think at Sears' optical department too. I think it's 30% off the total cost, so it might even be cheaper than using one of their coupons.

This thread caught my eye because I'm actually going to Lenscrafters today! I will make sure about the Triple A deal.

Lenscrafters, Pearle, etc. are great for same day stuff, though a bit more expensive.

I have a REALLY complicated prescription and I got a pair a few years ago at Sam's (you can go to their vision/pharma w/o membership) and it took a week and I was more than pleased.. and they were SO cheap.

While I usually hate Sams/Walmart, I woudl buy glasses again from them. I like them better than my Lenscrafters ones.

I'd call several places and explain the situation, see who can give you a better deal.

Thanks so much, everyone! I went to Sam's Club today and the cheapest frames they had were $47 and lenses would be $28. I called Lenscrafters and they were even more expensve. Then I went to www.39dollarglasses.com and ordered her a really cute pair! I went ahead and paid the overnight shipping, just to be safe, but even with that the glasses came in just under $60. Thanks so much for all the help, and I'll let you know!

Got them yesterday, and they're sooooo cute! She loves them, and I love knowing that she has them if she needs them. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a cheap but decent pair of glasses!

Thanks for the link to 39dollar glasses. I am definately getting my next pair of Progressives through them. That is a huge savings over what I have been paying.
