Is there a national resouce for LC where I can get names and #'s similar to when I was looking for a doula?

What is the average cost of LC services?

Here's a link to the national registry of IBCLCs: http://www.iblce.org/old/US%20registry.htm

I have NO idea how much services cost. Sorry I can't be more help!

The rate around here is $50/hour and insurance won't pay. The hospital where I delivered has one on staff though, and she is free if you delivered there. However, she gave us horrible advice and contributed to ruining the nursing relationship.

Blue Iris,
Below is a Kellymom link with a Lactation Consultant Directory and links to other LC directories. I have no idea what a good LC would cost.

BTW, I did post a follow up to your other thread, including a link to an earlier MDC thread on Raynaud's. There were two posts in particular that seemed to have some BTDT advice.

I also included a link to Newman's site which has video clip of proper and improper latches. And there may be a couple of medications you are unaware of.

Good luck, ~Cath

I needed to talk to LC the other day (I had a question about safety of the medication I need to take). Since she could help me over the phone (and there was no need to see her) I was charged 75 cent a min ($5 min charge).

In the Seattle area (pretty high cost of living all around), my LC charged $100/hr if you came to her, $215 for the visit if she came to you, no matter how long it was.

Blue Irises,
Here's a thread on the importance of using an "IBCLC" but also to make sure that they have real experience. One or two posters emphasize that formal education is more heavily weighted than practical experience.

So you could get a nurse that takes a couple of classes and becomes an IBCLC but may not even be supportive of breastfeeding. Someone else makes the point that some LLL leaders are IBCLCs.

I suggest you try your local LLL and see if they can refer you to an IBCLC.

I have some more info on Latch and Raynaud's that I'm going to PM you.
