I am just sick to my stomach about this...

I stumbled upon some of the amalgum filling information and how bad it is. I had to get 5 filling during my pregancy and the dentist put in all amalgum fillings. I had no idea!! I want to cry because of what it could have done to my dd!! I don't even know what questions to ask...all I know is I want them OUT but that sound more dangerous than leaving them in...

My DH even found a website that says, "Some other countries follow a “precautionary principle” and avoid the use of dental amalgam in pregnant women. Canada and Sweden have environmental policies that favor a reduction of mercury in all products, and in Sweden amalgam has been almost entirely replaced by alternative materials. Both countries, however, state that there is no scientific evidence of a connection between the use of dental amalgam and medical problems.

Pregnant women should not avoid seeking dental care, but should discuss options with their health practitioner.

I can't believe I was so naive! I guess I'm having some serious guilt issues and here I thought I was giving DD pure breast milk but actually I breathed in a bunch while I was pregnant with her and there has probably been mercury seeping in to my milk!

What can I do? I know I would need to find a dentist that would remove them safetly (i forget the initials for what they are/do)

Is my DD okay or should we be doing some crazy detox things? She is 14 months old. Sigh...

I'm not sure how to answer your question, but I just want to encourage you NOT to beat yourself up about this. You trusted your dentist who should have done the best thing for you and surely he knew you were pregnant.

It is something a lot of us have learned the hard way, we have to take control of our dental issues and become informed first. I know we had some negative experiences which is why I am more adament about doing things I know to be best and doing my own research as well.

I really feel for you, because we do want to do what is best and it hurts to find out that we didn't thru being misled

Wait until your DD is weaned before having the amalgams removed. I had 2 of mine removed today. Even though the dentist tried to remove them in big chunks, there was still a good bit of debris. Start taking sodium ascorbate (vitamin C) since that will neutrilize any mercury leaching from your fillings. SA is the best form of vitamin C out there and it can be used for preventing colds/illness too. Kombucha is a probiotic drink you can make or buy at the health food store. It is mild enough to drink while breastfeeding. It will help your body detox a bit plus it has the added benefit of preventing cancer. Once your DD gets a bit older, she can have the Kombucha too. I would at least wait until she's closer to age 2 since its mildly alcoholic. For more info about Kombucha, visit the traditional foods forum. There are ladies there that make their own. Also visit the chelating thread here on this board. You can get some ideas for how to detox yourself and your little one, if needed. One thing to keep in mind is not to try chelating before your DD has weaned or before you've had the amalgams removed. FWIW, I had vax's during pregnancy before I knew about the mercury in them and how fetuses absorb it. I also had an x-ray before I knew I was pregnant. My DS was fully vax'd up until recently. Fortunately he has survived all of that and is happy and healthy. He's also quite bright for his age so try not to worry. At least you know now and you can do something about it like me.

Yes, visit the chelating mamas thread on this page for more info than you want.
You did the best you could with the knowledge you had at the time. Now learn what you can do to help yourself and your dd. You didn't mention any medical issues so hopefully you've learned in time. Some of us thought we were doing the best for our dc, but the mercury has already hurt them. Just start walking down the path towards healing now.
