Especially Molarmomma. I know you are a dentist, not an endodontist...but what is the purpose of prescribing antibiotics AFTER a root canal (after I've already had a round of amoxicillan and they put antibiotic pellets in the canal during the first half of the root canal)?
I'm going get a root canal finished today and the endodontist said he will likely prescribe antibiotics AGAIN. This would be my 4th round since September! I had a root canal on a different molar in October with 2 rounds...amoxicillan before and clindamyacin (with pellets in the canal during the treatment). I agreed to it then because the infection was the WORST pain of my life...I was literally in bed and could not sleep for days (I ALWAYS sleep...even through earthquakes). The endo. also kept commenting as he was working, "God...this infection is HUGE". The idea of such a "huge" infection living in my jaw for so long scared me more than antibiotics. This tooth may likely have to be pulled anyways because it was so far gone.
However, the one I'm getting finished today has not even caused me any discomfort. So I am led to believe that this infection is not that big. I really do not want to subject myself to more antibiotics unless it is a dire situation (like my other tooth). Hopefully I can get him to agree today that antibiotics aren't totally necessary for this tooth....
So...I hate antibiotics but what does everyones research and experience say...what are the dangers beyond gut distress and destroying helpful bacteria in the intestines? I didn't have too bad reactions...even with clindamyacin as I loaded up on probiotics and ate lots of bone broth soups. My gut and digestion are fine now. Is there danger that harmful effects may not even be felt or that they may flare up later?
Also...what about collodial silver? Even if he says I need to take antibiotics again today I don't think I will since I'm not in any pain...and just take that. What is it's affect on the gut? I know I need to take probiotics with it as well- but any danger in it affecting me negatively as well since I've taken so dang many antibiotics the past 4 months?
I know many of you don't agree with root canals in the first place...so I'm just needing input about antibiotics and collodial silver at this point. Thanks for any input.
