Maybe an overactive letdown? Laying down works against gravity sometimes.
Maybe a tummy or comfort issue. Perhaps something about holding him in the typical nursing position made him uncomfortable?

My guess would also be an overactive letdown/oversupply.

Check out these links to see if anything sounds familiar:

Forceful Let-down Reflex (and oversupply)

Am I Making Too Much Milk?

Post back and let us know if that sounds familiar and we can go from there.

My Ds 2 can go for amazing amounts of time without nursing. He's now 6mo and when we're up he's usually too distracted to concentrate and mostly the big feedings he has are when I lie down with him for a nap.

Also, he wasn't particularly interested in nursing down to sleep for the first couple of months, but he does now. He rarely falls asleep nursing in my lap, but needs to be in bed. OTOH DH finds that he needs to hold the baby when he's sleeping and can't put him down

In my case I know that it's not an overactive letdown, he's just a different person than DS1
