I'll go first, here is my house right now:
Kitchen:

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0017.jpg
Don't fool yourself, the cabinets look nice and white and new, but the old owner just tore off the old doors, painted the cabinets themselves and replaced with ill fitting laminate ones. Yes, the countertop laminate extends all the way up the walls as a backsplash.
Curtains are the previous owners. Yes, DD is still wearing her PJs at 2 in the afternoon.
Playroom: (formerly hte dining room)
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0047.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0046.jpg
Pretty clean, its been a lot worse! Paper and curtains are the previous owners.
Living Room:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0042.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0044.jpg
Note the large blank wall. After looking at coupon queen's houe, I'm debating whether the pictures I put up are too cluttery. Also, its amazing the cushions are on the couches - they spend 89% of their time on the floor. One of the two rooms we actually painted. Note no window treatments other than shades.
Office / Exercise / Craft Room:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0015.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0030.jpg
Everything has been thrown onto the bookcases willy nilly to keep it off the floor, the tables have piles of rubbermaid containers under them. Another owner left window treatment.
Upstairs! The upper hallway:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0007.jpg
I was thrilled when I found my children had emptied the towels out of the closet onto the floor, but was too depressed to attempt to put them back yet.
Bathroom:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0008.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0009.jpg
Very Blue, this is in its 'clean' state.
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0011.jpg
The 'well organized" (ha ha) bathroom closet. Decor is all original owner.
DS's room aka spare bedroom at the moment:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0053.jpg
This is my current project - the pile of boxes is supposed to go to the basement for further processing. (Wait until you see the basement)
DD's room:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0054.jpg
I keep very little in here, so it doesn't get too bad, though she regularly takes all the clothes out of her dresser and throws them on the floor. Sigh. This is the other room we managed to paint. Also note the lack of curtains. Bah. Also note the stickers DD has decorated her little ikea mirrors and wall with.
Our room:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0055.jpg
Wallpaper is courtesy of previous owner, DS sleeping on lower twin bed.
And the piece de resistance! The basement:
Stairway leading down:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0018.jpg
This is significantly better as DH has been working on removing the pile of cardboard at the bottom of the stairs. I'm serious it was at least 3 steps higher about an hour before this.
The laundry half of the basement:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0034.jpg
The "other' half of the basement:
Cue the scary music...
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0035.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0037.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0038.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0019.jpg
Much of this will be going, a big part of it is my uncle's "estate" I need to sell. That's the stuff that isn't on the shelves. Most of the shelves are taken up with toys I evicted from the playroom but have not gotten rid of yet.
The garage:
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0025.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/New_0026.jpg
The garage is full of outdoor stuff taken in for the winter, it actually somewhat organized, though everything on the shelves was just thrown there, not in an orderly fashion so it still has a ways to go.
Okay, that's it, does that make anyone feel better?

mightymoo... I have to laugh with relief at your basement
We are almost basement twins, but I am working on ours, so it is slowly getting organized. Dh has the camera out sledding with the kids (thank God!)
Your house is very pretty, btw

I'm having trouble with the basement, because I don't feel like my son is old enough that I can just leave him playing upstairs and go work on the basement, so I don't get down there much. I'm often guilty of throwing things down the stairs (boxes, etc) and when I declutter I tend to box it up and it goes to the basement, so that's not helping either!!

You're absolutely right. My kids are 6 and 11 now, so they play together and for longer periods. What helped us (believe it or not) was a small flood about 14 months ago in the basement. The sumpump failed during a storm and we woke up to a couple of inches of water, so no time to move anything. We lost some stuff, but resolved to get it cleaned up. Then about 6 months later we decided to move the computer down here (after resolving some of the water issues!) and make a play area. It helped me by getting the computer out of the kitchen and making it a space we want to keep cleaner. Now I am down here more straightening up, but too often I find myself here at MDC

All of these have DD in them.
We don't have a digital camera so these are roughly a few months old BUT still pertain the the current "messy scale factor"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-R2-008-2A.jpg

I'll always play this game!
I have pictures of what my house looked like yesterday on my blog- and today it's worse!!!!
Heres my living room- note dh on the couch holding my two sick dd's:

our room:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...e/DSC02782.jpg
here's my dining area:

heres the kids room:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...e/DSC02791.jpg
The rest of the house looks just as bad. Laundry is backed up, clean stuff is all piled up everywhere. Dishes are behind, toys are scattered. I was depressed this week.

Showing pictures of what my house looks like right now definitely is motivating me to get it cleaned up! I do find that the more I declutter the less far from 'clean' I am each time. Like the living room in my pictures - other than the cushions ending up all over the floor and the hats nad gloves getting thrown around (they live in baskets under hte bench) there isn't much in there to get dirty, so it cleans up fast. DD's room is like that too. My goal is to get that way with the whole house.

I know it's not super bad, but considering we've only had a year and a half to accumulate most of this stuff, and that we don't have kids yet, it still makes me
I'm hoping that knowing there are pictures of it looking messy posted here will encourage me to get it organized and do some major decluttering before we move. Knowing that we're moving in the next few months actually demotivates me from making stuff look nicer, since we're just going to pack it all up soon anyway.

Thanks, we gutted the kitchen and totally redid it when we moved in. My dh was talking about getting a pot rack, but we have too many pots, so we got that at a store closing, $15, and it really is a space saver. We put it up instead of putting a cabinet there, and well worth it.
My girls got to pick their color, I like it also
And my living room color, we weren't going to paint, we are only planning on being here for a few years, but in all my labor dreams, that is the color I saw, so I told dh, I need to paint where the birth tub is going to be:

Spare Room (We used to rent this room out to a friend, but after we accepted that no one else wanted to rent it, it became our garage/basement and is mostly full of empty boxes. I really should have opened the closet for these pics - it is chock full of crap.)

| I have to say, I'm jealous of all the pretty colors everyone's rooms are painted. We'll be renting for quite some time, so we're stuck with plain white for now. |

Heres my living room- note dh on the couch holding my two sick dd's: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...e/DSC02790.jpg our room: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...e/DSC02782.jpg here's my dining area: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...e/DSC02788.jpg heres the kids room: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...e/DSC02791.jpg The rest of the house looks just as bad. Laundry is backed up, clean stuff is all piled up everywhere. Dishes are behind, toys are scattered. I was depressed this week. |

"The box room" as we call it! We have yet to live without a box room. From our condo to our old house to our new house, our goal is to one day not have a box room....

I know how you feel, we've all been there I'm sure!. We wanted to paint our whole house when we moved in, but the owner had put wallpaper up over wallboard and it took us the month we gave ourselves just to get the living room halway and DD's room done. The rooms that are painted are paint over wallpaper, sigh. I'm tempted to gut, but I don't have the energy for it I'm afraid.

Yeah, I think my goal will be not to move the box room with us this time. The problem is that we only need a one bedroom, but when we find an apt. we like, they only have two-bedrooms available, and we can afford a 2-BR, so we take it. Ideally, I'd just like to keep that room and the closet in it empty, but it inevitably fills up with stuff. Our long-term goal is to build a 600-700 sq ft house with no garage and only a root cellar. Then we'd be forced get rid of all that extra stuff and non-essential stuff would never even make its way in. (Speaking of non-essentials, did anyone see the infant bike seat we have in the spare room - I was so strongly compelled to pick it up from the side of the road, but even if we get pg our first month TTC, there is no way we'll be able to use it in less than two years from now. Oh yeah, and we also don't own bicycles
![]() ![]() I have a feeling when we do finally end up somewhere we can actually paint, I'll probably stick with white because I get color paralysis and am scared I will get sick of anything bright. My dad refused to paint rooms bright colors when I was growing up, saying that only hippies have burgandy living rooms ("hippy" is my dad's worst insult ), so I think I have some issues to work through first. ![]() |

well mine is clean because we got a call at 9:30 this morning that someone was coming through to look at the house (we are selling) so i ran around like a maniac for 4 hours cleaning it. I even took down a strip of wallpaper in the bathroom that i had ruined the first time putting up. I put a new strip up and it looks as good as new!! I am sure we will sell it now

We had Dh's family Christmas at our house today, and now it's a wreck. 20+ people in a little over 1000 sq. feet was interesting. This is what the aftermath looks like.

I would show y'all what it looks like around here, and make everyone feel better, if only I could find the camera...
