Aching tooth....

I have a tooth that is killing me. It was filled when I was younger and needs to have the filling removed and replaced. The dentist tells me even with my dental insurance, it is going to cost me over $500. I just can't justify spending that on a tooth, not that I could afford to anyways. It is the last molar on my bottom left and I try not to chew on it and when I forget, it aches for days. I have been doing something that I know I shouldn't to stop the pain.... I paint the tooth and around the gum with fingernail polish and it helps keep the air out and stops it from hurting so much. Obviously, I know that this is not ok to do but it hurts so bad. I feel like just going and having the darn thing pulled but I hate to do that too. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks.

you absolutely need a root canal asap! it is only going to get worse, and it can lead to infection outside of the tooth (e.i. in your body) please get in asap! most dentists are more than willing to do payment plans, and pay in monthly installments. IF you don't get a root canal soon you very well may lose the tooth, and then you are looking at either an implant (SPENDY, upawards of 1,500 dollars u.s. currency) or bridge (also spendy, not sure how much tho). The nail polish sounds horrible, i dont' know of anythign specific about it being horrible but it sounds like a terrible idea i hope you get in soon, i've had several bad teeth that stemmed from old fillings gone bad (cracked) and i've also lost a tooth that way. I KNOW how bad it hurts, your body is telling you to get it fixed! make an appt!!!! in the mean time i *think* clove oil can help pain, as can of course ibuprofen or tylenol (advil works better tho imo). BIGHUGS! GET IN THERE!!!!
