"White head" on nipple?

I have this small white-head looking bump on the end of my nipple in one of the crevices - it hurts, especially when one of my boys is nursing. I keep making them nurse that side hoping to extract whatever it is, but so far it's not working (the pain/discomfort began yesterday IIRC and I noticed the white head thing this morning). Is it a clog of some sort? Should I use moist heat to help draw whatever it is out? If it comes out while one is nursing, is it a big deal? (You'd think after 5 1/2 years of nursing someone I'd know these things, but this is a first for me! )

Could be a milk blister or bleb. There is a pic linked on this page...

It's called a bleb. (Lovely, huh?) Someone might have a "nicer" way of dealing with them, but I sterilize a pin and gently poke through to let the dried milk underneath the skin out. It's like a blister -- the skin on top is pretty dead and you don't (or shouldn't) feel pain from the pin. Then I have one of my kiddos nurse to make sure the milk is flowing freely.

I've had one of these before. It actually caused a duct to plug up. I tried extra nursing on that side and warm compresses. I ended up rolling my nipple back and forth between my fingers and compressing the "white head" thingy forward until POP like a cork it flew out...ahhhhh immediately the milk started flowing and instant relief

What a lovely thing to have! The white head part seems gone now and the pain is subsiding so someone must have sucked it out (that sounds so gross!). Thanks for enlightening me on a whole new realm of bf'ing.
