I took him in and I asked the doctor if it was possible he had WC and she said, "oh, no it doesn't sound like that". She didn't even hear him cough when making this assumption! :

She made it sound like it's not something that is very prevalent which I happen to disagree with. I think it's just not diagnosed because doctors assume the vaccinations prevent it. Although ds does not have his 4 mo. shots so I thought she might be more concerned. I know there is nothing they will do for it anyway, it just would've been nice to have a doctor acknowledge my thoughts.

Also if you do choose to vax understand the disease may be contracted anyway. If and when your child does contract the disease you have vaccinated for make sure you know what to do about it. I think this is important as well. My DD had pertussis and I was clueless on how to care for it. I am better prepared the next time when my 2nd one contracts it.

You might want a second opinion. My Dr had no doubt based upon the discription of the cough (and the nurses). My DD had been vaxed and he didn't dismiss the symptoms. Too bad his NP wasn't such a dolt I would have kept him.

Yes, even if she had heard the cough I'm skeptical that she would've thought WC. It really seems as if some doctors just refuse to believe it's still circulating. The thing is I only heard what *might have been* a whoop once or twice, he doesn't make that whooping noise most of the time.

Yeah, if there's a vax for something, docs assume you can't get it.

But pertussis is profoundly common, and the vax is one of the least effective ones out there. (Not quite as poor as the TB vax, which apparently did nothing for TB, but provided 50% protection against leprosy. )

My DD got whooping cough from our fully vaccinated neighbor, whose official diagnosis was asthma. Asthma that somehow lasted about 100 days, and then vanished. The darndest thing.

You do know about sodium ascorbate for whooping cough, right?
If not, do a search in this forum and you'll find some fantastic advice from a fantastic woman, MT.
The info I got here made our experience much, much easier.
