My empathetic babe story

I just had to share this...

Last week dd and I were visiting a friend and her babe, M, who is about 3 months old. Stella was happy and playful, freshly fed, clean diapered, even recently napped! But when she heard M crying, she paused, looked around the room until she spotted the source, and then over about 10 seconds, Stella's face slowly changed from happy to questioning, to a slight frown, to worried, to a full on wail of a cry. And it was a totally new cry! I call it her 'big girl' cry, a huffy, puffy, sniffly-snorty cry. Once M was latched on and feeding and quiet, I showed her to Stella, and only then was Stella soothed!
It was amazing, and it happened about 3 times that afternoon, everytime M cried, so did Stella, until M stopped.
So maybe every baby cries when they hear another, I don't know, but it was the first time I'd seen that kind of behavior in my girl, and it reinforced my sense of her awareness, and also showed me how much more little tiny babies can perceive than they are usually given credit for.
It was so sweet...my sensitive baby...

what a sweet little girl.

ds2 will cry everytime ds1 cries. It's like it scares ds2 when ds1 cries. I feel so bad for him. And, once ds1 stops, ds2 will stop. : Imagine all that in the car, that's usually when it happens.

Liam does that if he sees a crying baby at a store or somewhere.

Nate has done this from a very young age when A.J. cries. It's like he just knows one of his brothers is super sensitive and can't help but cry when he does. He's done it around a few other babies as well.

isa does it alot with her best buddy, whom she is around almost everyday. it's an amazing act of solidarity, you can see it in their eyes.

us grown ups could learn something there huh.
