Statistics show that over 65% of children will have an ear infection before age two and 15% will have more than six. I'm wondering how all of the MDC children compare in general and if vaccination plays a role.

I voted "no, and I did NOT vaccinate him/her." All of my children have had some vaccines, but none before age two (my middle child started around age 18 months, oldest at 2 and youngest at 2.75.)

My oldest had antibiotics once when she was about 5 or 6- maybe my younger DD also had abx at the same time? I don't remember if it was for ear infection(s) or not, but that's the only time I ever bought antibiotics for any of my kids.

No ear infections here.
I was wondering about this, too.

a PA who was standing in for our MD tried to push this vax on us, telling us how her kids were bfed but still had lots of ear infections, how some people are more susceptible to them, blah blah blah until finally I said, "Can we wait and see if dd is one of them before we decide on this shot?" and she said, "Oh, yes." (Of course I knew I could wait, I just wanted to get off the subject!) She has never had an ear infection.

They also told us to expect up to 10 colds/year, I think she may have had 2 in 26 mos.

No ear infections, no vaxes.

I can't vote in the poll, because I did do 5 vaccines before age 2, so I don't fit into the fully vaxed and don't think I should say we vaxed, but I don't fit into the unvaxed. We originally started out to do a selective/delayed schedule. We got 2 Hib, 2 IPV and 1 Prevnar before we decided not to do any more at all. DD has never had an ear infection.

i voted yes ear infections, yes vax. but i don't think it had to do with the vax in our case, as we have a family history of chronic ear infections all the way back through my great grandmother remembering her ear aches and being treated with garlic oil.

I couldn't vote as my child is only 19 months, but no ear infections yet, and not vaxed.

My two sons were the first kids in the last few generations of the family from every side to have no ear infections in childhood. They were also the first ones to be totally vaccine free.

3 kids (26 months - 5.5 yrs) No Vax, no ear infections.

1-2 colds a year and no other illnesses.

None of the poll options worked but my 5.5 yo got the first round of shots but none after that and no ear infections yet.

None of my children are vaccinated. My first and third kids have never had an ear infection. That's right never. Not in 12 years for the first or 4 1/2 years for the third. My second child had one ear infection when he was under a year old. But he's the one that was constantly mildly sick until he turned 6 and then his immune system prevailed and he is now the healthiest of the bunch. I'm convinced based on that and other things that he was one child that would have had immediate and permanent damage from vaccines. I don't think his constitution would have ever recovered and gotten strong if he had been vaccinated or been put on a slew of OTC and prescription meds.

I am also convinced that vaccinated kids have weaker immune systems and get sick much more easily, much worse and more often than unvaccinated kids as a whole.

Hey garlic and mullein oil is an excellent way to respond to ear pain

You can get it at health food stores if you've never tried it.

Dd is just shy of 20 months, and has never had an ear infection, and has never been vaxed, and is still nursing.

My nephew, on the other hand, was close to getting shunts put in his ears and is fully vaxed, and also not BF'd.

I'm not sure how much of the earache thing is vax related and how much is BF related....I'm sure the two put together is a double whammy on ear yuckies

Both kids unvaxed.

DS only had his first ear infection 6mths ago at age 3 after a winter of colds.

DD got an ear infection within a few days of him at 1 and a bit after also have a bunch of colds one after the other.

To be fair, we did do the 2 months shots but stopped after that.
But I'm considering that "unvaxed" since it's way closer to the unvaxed side than the vaxed.

I have two children so I will answer for both. DD was fully vaxed until 12 months, then we quit all vaxes. At 17 months she had her first and only ear infection. It was awful and caused her to discontinue BFing (yes, I did try to continue, but during the infection it was too painful for her and after the infection finally cleared up she just wasn't interested anymore) DS was not vaxed at all and to my knowledge has never had an ear infection.

Ds1 was partially vaxed as well as formula fed no ear infections.
Ds2 is non vaxed and was bfed and no ear infections.

I think, in our case, it might be part luck, and also, we are dairy free (ds1 was on a special formula due to allergies, no dairy in it).

One child has had ONE vaccine -- ironically, Hib. He had one ear infection at age three that cleared up quickly using homeopathic oil.

My other child has had no vaxes and has had no ear infections.

I wonder if there is a genetic component -- my sibs and I were not prone to ear infections, either. (Now that I think about it, we were all nursed until at least age two as well, so that could have been a factor.)
