Fetal Heart Rate= Gender?

So we haven't had an u/s so technically the gender is a surprise.
But for months my midwife has been certain that it's a boy.
Because the heart rate is low.
Now I have friends with boys who were "girls" because of the heart rate.
But in this case is this as infalible as my midwife seems to think?
As I tell everyone I'll be happy with who ever shows up, But...
I've felt since before I got pregnant that this pregnancy would be a girl.
Still if this whole heart rate thing is infalible then I'll get the boy stuff ready.

I would wait and see before you get any gender specific things, but my dd was a faster heart rate than this baby who is a boy. In fact, since the first heart rate, I knew it was a boy because it was slower. Either way, it will be a great surprise for you. Good luck.

I don't think it's infallible, but there may be a general trend. DD's fetal heartrate was consistently faster than ds's.

I don't put any stock in it at all. I had problems with unexplained fetal tachycardia in the third trimester. I had to be monitored for the better part of the day one day. Her heart rate dropped as low as 120 and was as high as 190. No one could expain why her heart rate was consistently high everytime I went in for monitoring, but given that we had a day's worth of data, there was nothing to be concerned about. I was told such variablity was normal. So, I can only come to the conclusion that the heart rate gender thing was crap. Fifty-fifty like anything else.

After 4 babies I also think it's crap
My good friend's baby's HR is 160+ every single time but she just found out she is having a boy.
My MW was sure #3 was a boy because her HR was always slow.

Now this little one has a slow HR and I have felt from very early on that it is a boy but we shall see.

I personally wouldn't put too much stock in it - our heartrates aren't different outside of the womb because of our gender, why would it be different inside?

Oh thank you.
I was starting to feel like the surprise had been ruined.
Also it's confusing to feel so sure, but be told theres almost no chance.
Our midwife is wonderful, this is really her only falt.
I'm glad to hear it's not all settled.
I like gender nutral clothes and things best.
I find the cutsie pink bunnies and monster truck onesise repugnant.


I would still love to hear what others expearence has been.

I don't really know it if it is true or not i have heard under 140bpm = boy and 140+ = girl, my dd caitlins was most of the time above 140bpm

I don't buy into this. If it were true then I would have a dd instead of my ds. And this baby in one appt is would of switched between a boy and a girl b/c the hr was changing every second to above and below. My second last appt was 138 and this last one it was 148. Only 5 more weeks then we will know for sure what the baby is.

My midwife also jokingly has said the fetal heart rate indicates girl. I had a nice, old gentleman who correctly guessed the gender of all seven of his children tell me I was having a girl. And the family practioner that I interviewed (he's an OD that practices eastern and western medicine) last week took my pulse on both my right and left left wrist, and since it was slightly stronger on the right, his guess was a girl too. Both my boys are also sure that they are having a sister, so who knows?

It's fun hearing everyone's guesses, but that's all it is... a guess.

Not in your DDC, but generally I think its a myth, although it has been true for us, both ds were 140s, baby #3 (u/s said girl) is always in the 160s.

Apparently a number of studies have disproved this "old wives tale".
Now I will just happily look forward to birth to find out who's in there.
