Deep cleaning and gum treatment while pregnant and BFing

I tried to do a search on the forum but couldn't find what I was looking for so forgive me if this has been addressed before: !

I need to get a deep cleaning due to inflammation of my gums and some infection in them. I am pregnant and breastfeeding and am interested in research showing safety or nonsafety of said treatment under above conditions. TIA!

I don't know if this helps, but I was in a similar situation.

How bad is the infection? Will they be placing antibiotic medication under the gumline. Is it for your whole mouth or is it limited to a small area?

When I was preggo with dd1, they wanted to do my whole mouth, even though only a few back teeth had inflamation. (Though I will admit that all my gums, in general, had a little swelling.) It wasn't serious, so I refused and did some research. Pregnancy can sometimes makes some women's gums swell/inflame. The medication they were going to put just under the gumline had some side effects that I wasn't comfortable with - of course these were down-played. Since it wasn't serious, that was enough for me.

The swelling did go down after my dd was born. I use a sonicare, natural toothpaste or b.soda, and never go anywhere without my floss. When I up'd my vit. c intake I noticed my gums started looking really healthy, too.

I'm sure some of the other mamas would know a lot more about this than me.

Good luck with your decision,
