Lower abdominal pain 6 weeks postpartum?

Hello! First time posting here.

I gave birth 6 weeks ago and started mild exercise 2 weeks ago. I noticed that every time I try to do exercise related to low abdominal strength I feel pain in the lower abdomen (all around, not in a specific area). I expected to have weak muscles after birth but I did not expect total inability to do some entry level Pilate-style exercise (and I was good at them before pregnancy!). I also feel the same type of lower abdomen pain when I am walking very fast with wide steps.

Is this normal?

Did you have a cs? After mine I had pain when exercising in the beginning but it was only on the right side. Maybe you should call the doc just in case. They'll probably tell you to wait a couple more weaks before trying ab exercises.

I had pain...a hot poker on one side and ice water dripping sensation on the other after a CS....If you had a CS, I would say it's normal nerve healing type pain, but if not, then I"m not so sure....I don't remember pain after my Vaginal birth..well, except in my perineum...it hurt htere FOREVER...

I had vaginal delivery. THe pain is in the lower abdomen, not in perenuim. THe pain is only during movements.

Were you large? I wasn't with my first but was HUGE with my second...he was 2 # bigger and laid differently, maybe ligament pain...you know when stretch a ligament in a knee or ankle or elbow it take a long time to heal, maybe those ligaments holding your uterus in place are just still a bit sore...but might something worth checking out...What sorts of movements make it hurt? sit up type stuff? Have you read "Get Rid of your Mummy Tummy"...she has great exercises that don't require crunches because many womens abdomens haven't healed to do a crunch/situp and doing so only makes matters worse...basically your abdominal muscles spread apart for that growing uterus and you can end up with a split in them..like a hole in between the two large middle muscles and if you start doing crunches and situps it actually makes that hole worse not better, but her exercises are much better for your body...see if your library has it.

Me too, I was 7 weeks PP yesterday. It got much better after 6 weeks but my MW is sending me in for an ultrasound to make sure I don't have a cyst. hth

Just an update: I saw OB who said that he does not see anything wrong with me. I still have pain. I went to internist couple of days ago - he diagnosed me with abdominal sprain - he said that I got it during my first attempt to exercise, not during delivery. He said not to do anything but walking for 2-4 weeks. I guess I'll wait 2 more weeks and forgo my attempts to get in shape for a little bit.
