With DD, we got off to a rough start. Didn't get to nurse until about 4 hours after birth, had trouble latching for quite a while. One LC in hospital was no help (suggested supplementing day after birth!), next was much more helpful with positioning, etc. Lots of pain initially due to poor latch, then developed mastitis on right side.

By 3 weeks, DD hadn't gained more than a couple ounces back, my supply was way down, and I was in severe pain on the right side. We saw a LC again, did the measuring & weighing route and discovered that I just wasn't producing much on the right side, and not much more on the left. I pumped after each nursing for quite a while, and had to begin supplementing. Tried oatmeal, drinking more, fenugreek........nothing helped very much. I'm borderline hyperthyroid, so not sure if that had anything to do with it (not on meds). I was also under a lot of stress due to preparing for a cross-country move when DD was 7 weeks old, leaving teaching and becoming a SAHM.

In the end, her latch improved and we were able to nurse until 15 months, but were never able to EBF, always had to supplement.

I'm due in 3 months with #2 ~ is there anything that I can do to help the possibility of being able to EBF this baby?
