Well Since a move to finland might not be possible for us the next best thing would be to move to a REALLY crunchy area. Dh could possibly get a job in Oregon or New England. Can you shed some insight on how No circ friendly these areas are? Any suggestions on a area that might fit our criteria?

We are in Texas now, and I HATE it!!! I am not used to living somewhere so......uncrunchy! Just moved from Ca (BTW a move back to So cal is not possible...too expensive)

Thanks!!!

Regarding circumcision rates, the WestCoast is the lowest; I think the Pacific Northwest in general has a reputation for being alternative/hippy/crunchy-friendly. As for Portland specifically, it has a solid homebirth community, several licensed private birth centers, and the main teaching hospital-OHSU-now offers waterbirth. Portland is also home to Birthingway College of Midwifery.

Portland is a pretty crunchy city, as is Eugene. I dont know about portland specifically, but the circ rate on the west coast is about 30%.

as a side note, a website that I saw but cant remember recently voted portland the best place in the US to have a baby. high breastfeeding rates and support, availability of alternative birthing methods, parks, maternaty leave, day care funding, etc were all reasons cited.

oregon for portland sounds good to me! Montana lacks the 'crunchy ppl' there are some slingers, some mom's who do homebirths some natural alternative docs other than that most parents are so mainstream.

Very intact freindly! About 1000 foreskins per square mile.

No seriously, check out some of the threads in our "finding your tribe" area.

I used to live in SE PDX and have since moved further south. (Silverton). Portland is GREAT. Very laid back. I personally don't know many who didn't circ but I don't have many friends with kids. If you can stand 7months of rain PDX could be right for you! You can find the community you're looking for in Portland.
