Diane Keaton and her mysterious neck

Does anyone know why her neck is in hiding? I don't think I have ever seen it!

Most of her movies she either wears turtle necks, high neck collars on her coats or ridiculous scarfs. In fact the previews for her new movie show her in a house (non winter from the looks of outside) with a HUGE (easily 2 feet wide) orange scarf wrapped multiple times around her. They seriously go out of the way to cover her neck as part of her wardrobe. I know she wasn't like this in her earlier acting days since I just watched Father of the Bride. I can only think of that one show (and part 2) though.

Why does she not show it? Does she even have one?

Your neck shows your age....I would guess she's either embarrassed by it, or the director wanted her to look (slightly) younger. How old is she?

You're too funny!

I have noticed the "cover your neck at all costs" wardrobe on other actresses as well. Candice Bergen has kept her neck covered for years.

Bea Arthur, of the Golden Girls, wore a scarf for all of the seasons she did "Maude" the television series. She is now 80, but she was in her 50s when she did "Maude".

Diane Keaton is 61.

Candace Bergen is 60.

I guess with all of the plastic surgery that is done on the face, only so much can be done with a turkey neck.

although it did make me feel old to read you refer to Father of the Bride as her "earlier acting days"

Okay so I just went to IMDB, and scrolled through the photos they have on file. New theory, she's a man, she's trying to hide her adams apple.

I think she just likes the style. Yes, her neck is starting to show her age but it's not bad!

I read an interview with her a few years ago and she said she was always cold. Hence the gloves and turtlenecks. She's been wearing them for years.

I've seen that movie and once Jack Nicholson moves in her neck goes into hiding. In fact he even asks about it at one point. But she does bounce back and forth in it.

I'm still a baby. I'd have to google her to find something earlier that I might recognize. :

umm, ever heard of The Godfather? or Annie Hall?

Katherine Hepburn also hid her neck.

wow i was just thinking that this morning!
I have assumed that it's because she has a wrinkly neck. It's not too obvious she is hiding something with that massive orange scarf around her neck in her new movie. Especially while she's making out with that guy!

This is too funny. I've had an extensive conversation with my best friend about this exact subject!

Nora Ephron has a great quote

"Every so often I read a book about age, and whoever's writing it says it's great to be wise and sage and mellow. It's great to be at the point where you understand JUST what matters in life. I can't stand people who say things like this. What can they be thinking? Don't they have necks?"
