is the circumcision for a newborn? if so.... I'm not too sure how reliable it is, but just remember... that the procedure does not take long at all & the newborn will be fine right after and he/she will not remember a thing.

WHAT????
most people are all saying its fine but...wow, this is umm, wow. :
and yes, Im totally for genital integrity for both boys and girls, but most people, girls mutilation doesnt even enter their minds...wow.

yes, in that neck of the woods, esp in Indonesia, girls are just as much at risk of a circ as a boy is. They do it in hospitals mostly to newborns....

This is what most of us mean when we say there really isn't any difference, genital cutting is genital cutting...it's all cultural perception.

Yep, girls are circumcised in different parts of the world for the same reason that boys are circumcised in this country. It comes as VERY shocking to many people here when the find out. Most people in this country deny the obvious, when you research and find out more they are essentially equivalent. There are some really horrific forms of FGM...though from what I have read the infibrilation only accounts for less than 5% of FGM. The vast majority is roughly equivalent or even less extensive in what tissue is removed. People also forget too that the clitoris extends deep into the public area....it's more that just a nub at the surface.
