The only problem is that the cabinet corner (seen here) has no bare wall (the laminate from the countertop goes all the way up to the cabinets), so there is no color in that corner at all, its just like in that picture. But I guess in reality its not so bad, I just wish I could incorporate that color into that corner of the room, but I don't want to paint hte cabinets, maybe I could look for a nice fruit bowl or something that color I could put in the corner.
I like the color! The link for the cabinet corner isn't working though.

BTW, I think your DS and my DS have the same PJs. Do those ones have polar bears on the front?

can you make/have made a cookie sheet holder for the space? My FIL works for a custom cabinet shop and I know they do all sorts of strange jobs like that and it wouldn't cost *that* much, and they could match your countertops I bet. Or if someone is handy you could probably get a small peice of countertop to match and make a small, open cupboard there. It would look awesome

Least would be the gap between the stove and the counter. Once upon a time there was a larger stove there I guess. I really hate that gap, but I'm not sure what to do about it."

I love it!! You paint fast!! That would take DH and I an entire weekend. (But DH is "tape it off" man )

The "seen here" link is missing the "h" in front

Yeah, just missed the H, I fixed it in my original post.

I've done the whole 'tape it off' thing, but I've found that the paint seeps under the tape and I can do a better job just carefully edging. If it was a room with carpet, I also wouldn't risk not having a drop cloth, but because I can just wipe any drips off my laminate, I just went without. Also, if you don't have to paint the ceiling or the trim, it doesn't take as long. The pictures are too low res to tell, but it needs a second coat, and maybe a third in spots, so I'm far from done!

Now I need to figure out some window treatments. It really feels like a completely different room.

no time to read but....

i love what i've done with the pantry and cabinets. :and i now have a bag of baby food to donate.

been doing some serious thinking about what to do about the plastic bag cabinet. it is ridiculous. also the garbage/recycling area. i think i want to downsize the space that takes up and hide it away w/ the cat litter

thats my next project.

mightymoo ... you paint fast!!! i'm starting to think about painting trim in my kitchen and was blaffed to see that you already got a color and painted quickly.

On my side, I was able to declutter all cabinets except for one .. got one more shelf to deal with and three drawers (the most used ones).

still have to figure spices situation (it's another discussion in other thread)

Then will be doing some cleaning in fridge.

anyone know what's the perfect solution mix to wash the cabinet doors? It is full of dirty fingerprints, food stains from years ago etc.. I dont think warm water alone will do the trick

I feel like I'm on a roll.. got rid of many unused wedding gifts dishes, platters, cups .. we have too many.. we simplified to just two trays and fewer cups. I'm excited to do more with the kitchen next three weeks.

What kind of cabinets are they? If they're laminate, those magic erasers work really well...or else just water and dishsoap or simple green. If they're wood, you can use wood oil soap or a little dr. bronners and water, or a mild vinegar wash or simple green depending on the finish and how intact it is. Make sure you buff them with a dry cloth afterward.

Decluttering the front of the fridge

Anyone have any good ideas for banishing the stuff that ends up on the front of the fridge? We have all this stuff there and I find that it makes the kitchen look and feel more cluttered. But at the same time I'm not sure what else to do with it. Things I keep on my fridge are pictures and my motivated moms lists of tasks, but it just seems so cluttered, even when I try hard to arrange them nicely?

I saw on a organisation show that they nailed some metal to the inside of the persons cabinet and used magnets to put stuff there, so once you closed the door you didn't see it - the metal was just I think from a hardware store, the ductwork metal they use to build vents and stuff. I'm considering trying that for paperwork and numbers, etc

But what about pictures? I like having a rotating set of pictures so that when someone sends me one I can display it somewhere without having to dedicate a frame to it, kwim? I like the look of the french message boards, but do they really display pictures well?

What a great thread!

I'm in pretty good shape. If I can get photos done I may post, but in the meantime I just love watching people's progress.

MY KITCHEN PICTURE TOUR -Maybe later

WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT MY KITCHEN (Include a picture!)-I have lots of counter and cabinet space. It's sunny.

WHAT I LIKE LEAST ABOUT MY KITCHEN-The cabinets, they are cheap wood doors with particle board shelves and drawers.

MY PLAN OF ACTION - I've decluttered once, I'll do it again. I'd like to get more stuff off the counter. I have a couple of hotspots I'd like to tame. Also I'd like to put another shelf in the pantry, realign a drawer and the lazy susan.

okee.... I haven't taken pix yet because my camera is being funky, and also... hiding.
MY KITCHEN PICTURE TOUR coming soon, to a theatre near you

WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT MY KITCHEN (Include a picture!)
I love that it's BIG and has LOTS OF LIGHT. I also love the attached dining nook.
WHAT I LIKE LEAST ABOUT MY KITCHEN
Crappy storage space. Ugly tile/lavender walls. Ugly cheap cupboards. I hate that we have a great nook and rarely use it.
MY PLAN OF ACTION. First, inventory and clear clutter. (ha!! That alone could take a year) Possibly paint, although hubby is te painter here, so i'll see if he's up for a project. We are out of town a lot this month (although I'm going to SD without him for a weekend... he could paint then... hmmmmm wheels a churnin!) Find a way to make dining nook more useable.

MightyMoo, how about some thrift store cookie sheets to nail inside the cabinet?

Until a few days ago we had no magnets on the fridge... kept the clutter down!

I found batteries and added some more pictures...

Last night I didn't get through more than washing dishes, but that is a big accomplishment with DS awake and DH not at home. I'm constantly having to pull him out of the computer area, where he pulls on cords (he's unplugged the power strip more than once), hits the keyboard, and throws the mouse against the wall. He's even figured out how to turn the computer on and off! :

Anyway, I was happy just to get the dishes washed (I did it after I took the pictures above!). After dinner tonight, I'm going to get a start on going through the plastics. I'm dreading it. I'm such a packrat; I know that I'm going to look at every single piece and say, "Oh, but what if I need this again," or "Oh, I could use this for (fill in the blank situation that will never happen)." I have to be strong!

BTW, I work PT during the day, just in case anyone thinks I'm just sitting around doing nothing all day.

Ooh, nice work. I love when things are all nice and lined up. Not that I can keep them that way!

Ooh, that's a good idea. I wonder if I could paint them in fun colors? Though maybe the paint wouldn't stick to the non-stick? hmmm

Microwave on top of fridge?

Okay, another thought. I noticed in pictures that some folks have their microwave on top of their fridge. (Well I remember seeing at least one I think?) I do'nt have a lot of counterspace and stowing the microwave somewhere else would definitely free space up. I don't use the cabinets on top of the fridge except for stuff we hardly ever use, so that wouldn't matter and its a clutter trap anyway. Does anyone do this - what do you think? Is it really annoying?

I'm thinking I'm going to try it and see if it drives me nuts. Our fridge isn't terribly tall.
