Here are some sizing resources:

Children's Body Measurements and Garment Sizing
Standard Body Measurements/Sizing

You can also check out sewing pattern sites (Simplicity, McCalls, etc.) for size charts too.

Just wanted to mention, I still have some yarn left to donate. It's a pumpkiny/saffron orange, moss green and a few desert rose skeins. There's quite a bit of it and it's fingering or sport weight. Pm if you are interested. :

fremontmama, those sound like they would be good weights for socks, which I am on a huge sock kick right now. I am heading out to the PNW in July so if you are willing to hold them til I get out that way, shipping would be cheaper

That's cool. I would be happy to hold on to what I have for a while, it's just sitting under my desk at work waiting for someone to claim it. I actually have about 12 skeins of the pumpkin, 8 skeins of the moss green and 3 of the desert rose. Do you want all of that? Let me know what you want and I will set it aside for you, that way if someone else wants some of it, I can send that along soon. LMK :

I would like to get in on this. Holiday Helper, helped my SIL's family last year. She was telling me about it and it sounds great. I have a question though. I just opened a store on hyenacart.com and was wanting to auction off a couple of items with the money going to Holiday Helper, where would I send the money? and please don't say buy gift cards. I live in such a rural area that wal-mart is our greatest option and that is 2 hours away.

Sorry, one more question-is it ok if I use knitting looms to do donated projects?

That's why we started in January -- because we can afford to be a little slow. Yours truly has not completed a single project for this yet, although I have some on the needles. : However, I have decided that I am going to concentrate on gifts for teenagers, probably mostly girls. I have some cute purses I am going to be knitting and I just bought some supplies to make some of the shawls from MDK since ribbon yarn was on clearance for only $2 each at Michaels. Several people have mentioned how much harder it was to fill the needs of the older children and teenagers, so that is why I have decided to do this.

That is why I admit to having made hats for mostly adults. Because they fit teens too! We actually had a late "present" given and my husband sent a hat he made which was much appreciated. It was warmer then what that Dad already had.

But I am finishing off yarn, so the next will be a red child's hat.

Would little things like baby booties be needed? I'm crocheting some for friend's baby shower, its the first time I've made them. They are relatively easy so I was thinking I could make a few more pair for this but I don't want to waste yarn if that's not something that people need/want. I plan to make a couple other things too but right now I have so much on my plate that I just wanted to do something small.

Definitely! About the baby booties

Are there people in need of holiday help who will use acrylic? I took a class that required DK weight yarn and I bought acrylic to be cheap (I don't know what I was thinking - I'd get MUCH more use out of wool : ). So now I have 4 skeins of DK acrylic. It's quite soft - i would put it directly on baby skin.

Thoughts? If mamas will accept acrylic, what would be most useful?

Thanks!

Yes, there are definitely mamas who will accept acrylic. Some people are allergic to natural fibers. People who are vegan will not wear wool or silk. I think you should make whatever the yarn tells you it wants to be!

Can I join??

My Grandmother is coming to visit and is bringing some of her stash to me. She has already given me 2 large space saver bags full of *acrylic*, so I am going to dig into it.
I am a constant knitter, so I will spend time almost everyday on these projects specifically....
What do you guys think? Sweaters? Hats? Socks? Gloves??

Let me know (I need a push) what you think I should focus on.
Thanks!!

Welcome Darcy!! Some mommas were thinking diapering supplies but I am making hats. Anything you chose to make is welcome.

Hat, red wool with cream wool stripes. I would say for a four - six year old boy. It just screams boy to me
