Constantly checking the baby's position

My baby has been posterior a few times and the back pain was rather intense. My midwife showed me how to rotate him and it's worked well. But every once in a while I feel him start to squirm back to being face/legs forward and I get up on my hands and knees and push on him until he's back where he should be. Anybody else obsessively checking baby's position? I feel like I'm ready to go soon and I don't want him to decend down too far into the birth canal in the wrong position and end up with a long back labor.

I gave birth 10 months ago and I didn't check much at all. I knew he was head down and when he'd move, I would feel him move back and forth. I never actively moved him. We had a natural safe labor and my midwife didn't have to move him ... I still had back labor though because he moved last minute ... I wish you a wonderful birth. Full of health for both of you and peace ... may you feel peace during and when you see your baby girl for the first time. Blessings to you both.

WOW. I just saw your paintings on your site! Amazing! Really beautiful.

I am also an artist and I made a birth Mandala that really helped me during birth.

I forgot to say how great it is that you can feel your baby

Thank you so much! I've got a large piece I'm doing of a pregnant woman - I'm hoping to get it done before the baby - we'll see!

Well yup I'm a little obsessed with baby position since she's breech. :

My first daughter was posterier throughout her last 3 weeks. She remained posterier until she was 1/2 way through the birth canal.

Wanna hear some good news? I didn't have ANY back labor and I had an easy birth.

Of course perfect postioning can't hurt right?

Glad to hear that!!! I probably wouldn't be obsessing if it didn't hurt so much when he's turned posterior! I find myself checking him all the time to see if he's creeping that way. My midwives all have said he's in a great position. But when he was posterior - it hurt soo much! I just don't want to go through labor like that!!

You are not alone! I had a posterior baby last time with horrid back labor. I fear the same with this baby. The baby keeps flipping back and forth between anterior and posterior. Baby is definitely preferring the posterior position though

I'm also constantly checking. I'm afraid to sit or lay a certain way. I can tell when she's posterior b/c my back kills. I just wish she would drop down and come out already!

Just a note -when you *are* ready to go, if you do get the baby into a nice anterior position, you can do some controlled deep squats to try to really engage the head while the baby is in the angle you want. You can do them supported - hold onto a counter ledge or something and squat down low - without your knees extending in front of your toes - like sitting down in the air kind of. Hope that makes sense- it can help you move the baby down while you have the optimal position.
