Question about corona

I posted my son's story in the sticky "for those of you who regret circumcising your sons."

So, my son is now 7 days old and 5 days post-op from his circumcision. The corona (the area just proximal to the base of the glans) is so swollen and puffy - it actually dwarfs the head of his penis. I have just been washing his privates once a day with plain water, but using a small amount of antibiotic ointment on the glans and corona in order to prevent sticking to the diaper and help it heal. Should I be doing anything else? Will the corona always be so swollen?

TIA for any advice.

What you might be seeing is swelling of the remnant of inner foreskin cuff that remains near the corona. If you have concerns about this, I would call your doctor, to be sure there is no infection going on.

What type of antibiotic ointment are you using? I am allergic to Neosporin and so is 30% of the population. If that is the type of ointment you are using, I would stop.

: You can use Vaseline instead.

I read your story. So sorry. Yulia, who responded on the sticky thread, is right- I don't think you truly had all the facts.

the clarity of hindsight

If I knew then what I know now......

God, there is NO WAY I would have circ'ed my son. It would not have required me to be "granola" or change my parenting philosophies or have a mountain of evidence showing why circ is bad....bottom line, it is a non-essential surgical procedure done to a NEWBORN to "help" them look like all the other boys in the locker room (barring any religious motivation for the procedure). It's "cosmetic"....and with my son's natural circ penis with a bunch of careless wound handling steps along the way, the end result was that my son's beautiful uncirc'ed penis was turned into a very cosmetically screwed-up penis. Even if a person will not believe any of the other arguments against circ, all they have to do is look at my son's result and see that the procedure ruined something that did not need to be "fixed" in the first place.

P.S. I am using a generic triple antibiotic ointment. The glans is essentially healed at this point. I was using plain Vaseline up until Monday of this past week (today being Wednesday) and all the swelling around the corona started the day after the procedure (Saturday). I attribute most of the swollen tissue to that nurse removing the dressing prematurely, then the Vaseline-smeared gauze dressing coming off with each diaper change (traumatizing a fresh incision line that is trying to granulate over). Plus, with the natural circ, his foreskin was much thicker than most babies', so the tissue base was also probably thicker. Even if they were to tell me this is the expected or a "good" result of a post-op naturally circ'ed penis, to me the cosmetic result is HORRIBLE.....and isn't the cosmetic result why most parents circ?

Natural circ or not, I would never, NEVER do a circ on my son again. Unfortunately for my little baby, I can't take it back at this point. It breaks my heart.
