Thanks,
Amy

We don't have Abigail's yet either. That's all we're waiting for to get our taxes done. It's usually pretty quick here; I remember getting the other kids' within a few weeks. We didn't get her birth certificate stuff turned in until she was almost 3 weeks old. She's 5 weeks old today .

Not in your DDC, but I had DD 12/26/2006 and we had her SSN card by 3 weeks post partum. Hope you get it soon!

hmmmm... I had Meadow on Dec 2nd!! I remember getting Elle's much faster than this. If I don't have it by next week I guess I will have to take a trip to the SS office. We are moving on the 20th and I really want to get our refund back quick so we can buy some new furniture!!

I can't remember when we got Ingrid's SS card, but it was for sure less than a month after she was born. She was born in the hospital, so we got her paperwork in within days.

I live in Goergia and it takes 16 weeks for the state to get the birth information to the social security department, after that we were told it takes about a week once they get it. Our son was born Dec 14th and we are going to file an extention because his card will not be back by the file date. We usually file in the first week of Jan. so this is driving me crazy, having to wait almost 4 months for the state to get their butts in gear!!!

We didn't get Melvin's until last week (and I'm in Wisconsin). He was almost 2 months old! I don't remember my daughters taking that long either... !!!!! Just glad I got it!

*lurking*

My dd is 8 months old now and we STILL don't have her card.... she doesn't even have a number yet! We've tried 4 times to get this taken care of. Between Social Security and Vital Statistics, paperwork keeps getting lost or misplaced. We filed our taxes yesterday and we not able to claim her. : We have to file an ammendment when we finally do get it... and I'm guessing it'll probably be in April.

You don't have to have the card. SS may actually give you her number if you go to the office (they will not do it over the phone). You might want to bring her birth cert. and your ID of course. Good luck!

We don't have Drew's and won't for a while being overseas. We filed taxes and will just ammend later. I couldn't wait!!!

I suppose they're quick here in Mass. I got Maia's card about two weeks after she was born.

I would definitely go down to the SS office if you don't want to wait any longer. If the number has already been processed, they'll let you know what it is.

hey guys, I was curious about how long this all takes too. My daughter was born on January 12th and I remember my sons SS card coming pretty quick. I looked around the net and found this. It's a chart of how long the wait time is for newborn SS cards by state. Hope it helps.

Thanks for that link!

We went to do the paperwork for Whin's birth (for homebirths it's done by appt at the health dept in our county) on 1/19 & rec'd her certificate in the mail the next day!

The ladies at the health dept said that the SS office had told them they were running behind -- and they said that homebirth SSNs never seemed to be the SSA's highest priority.

So I'm waiting a few weeks more & then calling.
