November 2006 Babies - February Thread - Page 14

Sorry to post and run yet again - but YAY for the pp whose daughter latched w/o the nipple shield, having BTDT, I know how huge it is.

I just had to say - Benton fell asleep at about 9 pm last night in his swing, I moved him to our bed about 12, he fiddled around until he found his thumb and passed out again. He woke up to nurse, and I rolled over to check the time b/c DH was leaving town this morning and it was 6:00! HE SLEPT FOR NINE HOURS! He's as big as a horse, so he's starting to feel full, I think. Henry also slept like a champ - he started sleeping through at 5w5d, and was sleeping 12 hour stretches every night by this age, so I've been luckkkkkky with both of these boys so far.

I don't think yet. I tried with Mikki the other day - she was being very clingy and I really needed to get my son's birthday cake decorated. Like she always does in the sling, she fell asleep within a couple minutes of being in the sling (I put her in my mei tai this time). I decided to check her in the mirror, and she was in a position my chiro would have killed me over - head flopped all the way backward and to the side. So I did some limbo moves over the couch (where my husband was) and let her sleep there while I did some more decorating.

My first is only 2, but I was just telling my husband about this the other day. While I never felt that I was rushing him, I was always so anxious to get him to do everything... roll, sit up, eat, talk, walk, etc. He didn't really take to any solids until about 8 months, and when he did, it was minimal. I kept trying and trying every day instead of just waiting awhile longer. This time, I'm just taking a step back and letting her do her stuff when she wants.

I decided to try and see if she could roll over the other day (10th)- she's always in my arms, so I never really gave her a chance. She was so funny - was on her back on her little mat on the couch, and she took her arm and leg on the outside and literally threw them to propel herself over to her tummy... and got mad that the couch back was in the way. I said to Geof, "Well, I guess she can roll, huh?" Today (14th) she rolled from tummy to back, but I wasn't in the room to see her do it... maybe tomorrow.

Mikki is the same way. She spits up a lot (though not as much or as often as she used to - so I'm praying she's outgrowing the reflux). About once or twice a week she projectile vomits... usually right after I put her in clean clothes, so I wonder if I'm smooshing her tummy somehow?

Jami! We are about an hour from you, near a tiny town - Millersburg. We come to Mishawaka for the mall and Barnes and NOble, etc. My mom teaches at Grissom middle school.

daniebd - what great sleepers you have! I hope it stays that way!

I'm planning to follow dds lead with solids as well. I started them way too early with ds (that same crappy ped I have now says 4-6 months, first yellow veggies, then green veggies, then fruit...you'd think she's a fifty year old man but she's a thirty-something woman!), like 4.5 months! THis article was posted on another thread and I bookmarked it. I think it's great advice.

Still having BF issues...Now I think it might also be due to thrush...Anyone experience this with their breasts or their babies? I tend to get it down below, but never had it on my breasts...They are sore, but it could also be due to DD's funky latching on - coming on going off coming on going off coming on going off...Blocked ducts...Nipple blister/bleb...DD's fussiness...DD has no white spots in mouth...Apparenlty you can have thrush and not "see" it...

I'm drinking Pau D'Arco tea and was going to do that for a week. No yeast products as I'm off wheat, dairy, citrus and soy...Now apparently white rice is off limits...ANY ADVICE?

Oh yeah - just joined the local CSA (community supported agriculture) scheme - we'll be getting an organic box of veggies and fruit every week!

Oh and we're freaking out in my neighborhood as there was a murder of an old woman on the next street...We're all doing neighborhood watch now...

You guys go so fast around here. We just switched Ilana's reflux meds today to Axid so we'll see if that works. I'll update everyone on her weight check tomorrow, but w/ the way she's been eating I don't expect the #s to have gone up.

Here's some pics of her in her homemade Moby.

How did you put her in it? I have a Moby for DD and I've only tried her upright and behind the two front strap-things (she hates it).
Kind of like this. http://www.mobywrap.com/instructions.php?link=3 I've just been playing around w/ it lately. She likes that position b/c she can see.

Ohhh, I remember when Dov would sleep like that! For the last few weeks, though, he absolutely refuses to let me put him anywhere where he can't kick his feet, so it's hanging from the straps for us!

Today was his 3 month WBV (exactly 3 months...I think the doctor thinks we planned it that way on purpose ). Dov is 15 pounds and 26 inches long. His doctor asked me again if I wanted to give vaccinations, and I said not yet, and he said, "Great! I just have to ask you have to tell me what you want and that's just fine." I'm sooo glad I found a hands-off doctor!

Hi everyone!! Glad to see everyone is doing good....

I took Aiden to the doc yesterday to check his weight, since he won't get a WBV this month. He weighs 14 pounds 11 ounces at exactly 3 months old!! I really thought he'd weigh more. But I guess maybe he's taking a break from the insane growth spurts for now.

Still a champion sleeper! I don't really like how long he sleeps though (like 10 or so hours), and then waking at 9 or later in the morning..so I cut out his last feeding at night. Now he eats at about 8:30 or so and goes to bed..and wakes between 6 or 7 AM. Still long stretches, but at least we don't sleep half the morning away! He also started taking daytime naps again!! Yay!

He LOVES loves loves gatting baths. I bathe him by myself, during the day. If he's sleepy, he gets fussy it seems. The only time he really screams after a bath is if it's too cold in the house.

He also loves to stand up by holding onto my fingers. He'll do that forever! And he even takes little steps and "walks". He also refuses to recline now, and has to be sitting up. If he reclines, he does the "C" thing like PP mentioned.

No rolling over yet, but SOON! When he's on his tummy he can now lift his head all the way up, and prop up on his elbows. Then he starts kicking his legs and his little body just wobbles back and forth. So any day now, I think he'll roll over.

He's also still not laughing...I thought he would be by now...

I keep hoping for a laugh from Fiona too. Fiona also likes to do the standing up thing, although she isn't taking any steps yet.

Sorry so short - naking.
Dov loves to stand as well. If he's lying on his back and you give him your fingers, he refuses to pull up to a sitting position -- he pulls himself to standing. And then he tries to jump, by bending his knees and shooting up again.

I don't know if he laughs, exactly. He has a special shrieking sound he makes when he's very happy -- usually when he's "talking" to the light fixture or a ceiling fan .

Sleeping is messed up a little b/c my sister was visiting and she was up all night (insomniac) so when he woke up to nurse he just stayed up and now he thinks night is day. It's taken almost a week, but last night he went to sleep at 11 and stayed asleep until 7 (with at least one, maybe more, nursing episodes).

So glad to see my child isn't the only one that talks to the appliances. Simi loves the fridge, the curtains, and ceiling fans/lights. She actually does laugh at them sometimes. She really likes it when I make the chains on the ceiling fan swirl around and clank into each other. She's laughed at me only once, though. I told her she was a pee machine and started saying, "pee, pee, pee, pee" in a high pitched voice. Now when I do it, she just smiles, no repeat on the laughing.

My DD also talks to inanimate objects - the fish on her aquarium swing - the lights on the ceiling from her aquarium mobile, the penguins on her wooden baby gym. She does an silent open mouthed gesture at us...as well as makes gurglings and talking sounds at us. Anyone else's babe making wet sounding gurglings at them? This is a new sound for DD.

I got my period yesterday! This baby refuses the paci and bottle and nurses several times at night. DH says it must be a powerful force within me! Same thing happened with ds. Bummer!
Despite Ilana's not wanting to nurse from being sick and reflux, she gained 5ozs this week! Woohoo! She's up to whopping 9#9oz.
Bethkm - sorry about the return of your period. I keep wondering when mine will show up - not that I miss it.

Jennifer - congratulations on the weight gain! Hopefully things will keep improving for you. All this talk of weights has me wanting to get Fiona weighed...maybe I will brave the hospital to take her to the Baby Weigh Station.

: Morgan is OBSESSED with our fans! so much so that whenever she is about to freak out and melt down if I just put her on my bed under the fan she gets distracted. She loves to flirt with the fans and any light fixtures she sees. She also flirts like mad with a drawing I made of Horton (as in Hears a Who) and put up on the wall over her changing table. She is now always in a good mood when I change her diaper.

Yeah, it's kinda funny when Carter gives the couch the same joyful smiles he gives me.

Speaking of laughing, Lily laughed this past Saturday when we took her to see her great-great grandma--one of her namesakes. The first time Grandma D. got to hold her, she laughed! Grandma D. thought it might have been because of the towel around her head, she'd just finished washing her hair when we got there.

Here's a photo of them: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...1007/blog9.jpg

She laughed once more that day when we stopped on the way back so I coul feed her, and didn't laugh again until today with DH. I have tried and tried and tried to get her to laugh again but I guess I'm just not funny enough! I can make only so many silly faces and noises.. :P
