Hey mamas,

I have another developmental question for you all. Okay, two.

The first one is in regards to jumping. What is your child capable of? Both feet off the ground, almost off the ground, etc.

And the second one is about stairs. How does your child go up and down the stairs. I'm especially curious about how your child does it without you holding their hand. What are the holding onto? Are they holding onto anything? Are they alternating feet (like we do) or are they doing one step at a time, etc.

Thanks, I really think Owen is catching up to everything, and I was thinking of these two things when we were in the hospital today to find the range of your kids.

Much love to you all,
Amy

Oh and Rainy, no advice as we live paycheck to paycheck as well. although i do recommend you jump in on "The Secret" thread in the spirituality forum

Niko can jump with both feet off the ground. He is trying really hard right now to jump rope with his sister. Its her new thing to do all day, all night. He is also really good on the stairs, can walk up and down without holding on and alternates feet. We have alot of stair inside and out so he has had a lot of practice.

Finally Niko is starting to talk alot. He understands both english and spanish and at home is speaking english two word sentences. At Daycare he is starting to speak spanish more. Its pretty cute when he mixes them together. Like "get patos" which means "get zapatos(shoes)" when he wants to go outside.

rainy Hopefully it will all work out.

No potty for us either.... not even close!

Amy, Eli tries to jump but I don't think that both feet are actually leaving the ground yet. We don't have stairs in our home, so he doesn't get a lot of practice with that one and I honestly couldn't tell you how he does it! I will watch next time we encounter some, though. (And as a side note -- we have friends whose daughter had to go to physical therapy at the age of 4 because she wasn't doing these things properly for her age level. Now she is caught up just fine. Why does this happen? When I asked her about it, she just said that something in her daughter's brain wasn't putting things together right, but she acted like it was nothing to worry about...?)

And for those of you getting ready to have babies or thinking about having another, I just have to say that Eli has been such a GREAT big brother. I think part of it is because we already have Aidan here, and Aidan keeps him busy a lot of the time, plus he was never much of a "mama's boy" because he was always too busy trying to keep up with Aidan... Anyway, he is just doing great with it. I love to watch the 3 of them together, and of course, now I can't imagine our lives without Isaac with us! I was prepared for the worst, and now I am so pleasantly surprised -- "terrible twos" and all!

Aww....so sweet.

oh jenelle, they are so adorable!

rainy, i know how that goes. it'll be tough at times, but you guys will be ok.

amy, ds is a jumping fool. he'll jump around the room for fun. both feet way off the ground.

he's also pretty good at stairs, especially considering we don't have any in our apartment (thank goodness!!!!!). most times he'll offer me a hand, but sometimes he'll get in a groove of wanting to do it himself. then after a while (couple weeks or so), he'll slip and want my hand again. he alternates between one foot per step and two feet per step. i think mostly two per step. that really depends on the size of the steps and if he's wearing heavy boots or soft soles.

thanks for the hugs.

amy I read you most recent caring bridge updates and I just want to tell you how sorry I am that the person you wrote about was so insenstive, self-centered, mean. you don't deserve to deal with that kind of negativity right now!

also, about stairs: steep ones, wyatt needs tohold myhand or hold a railing, then he goes down aternating feet. He goes up steep ones, one foot at a time, not holding on to anything. For not-so-steep stairs, he can go up and down without holding anything, sometimes alternating feet, and sometimes one at a time, depending on lots of variables (what he's wearing, are we outside or inside....)

Jenelle, gorgeous pictures! so sweet!

Still here!

Busy alot lately but things are fine. Cole is a crazy monkey boy. He's talking up a storm and thinking of potty learning. He's undecided. He likes cars pull ups but hates the way they feel when he pees in them. I figure that's a good thing.

Right now he's refusing to nap and is instead hanging on me and whining.

Rainy0 I just saw your post...that is a scary feeling. I hope you are feeling better about the decision now.

Jett, too, is a jumping fool. He jumps all the way to the car, some days, jumps around the house, jumps down stairs, jumps onto things, jumps off the table over to the bed....oh. my. god.

He generally goes down the stairs like an adult, while holding the rail. Sometimes, if there's no rail, or the stairs are too tall, he will use both feet per stair.

He's getting his upper molars right now. NOT FUN!!

Amy, what a c*nt. I'm really, really sorry anyone would say that to you....especially since there's nothing in your blog about it. WTF?!?!

Rainy, hugs....I have no advice, but

Jenelle, those pics are awesome. As much as I enjoy Jett each day, I look forward to him being older and there being another little one to share all this joy! The more interaction and communication we get, the more I crave!!

ah, the never ending labor. fun stuff. keep us posted!

and, i'm sorry to post about non-toddler-related things here, and even more, to be so stressed about a material situation, when I know that others here are struggling with physical situations and worries for their children. I don't mean to derail the thread, or to sound like I've got the toughest lot in life here. I just respect you mamas and feel close to you since most of us have known each other for 3 years now!

I think we'd probably have to yell at ya if you didn't post about other stuff too! We all struggle with all sorts of stuff (hey, my labor has nothin' to do with ds2, lol)...

rainy I am sorry things are so tough. I really do know how you feel(cept I don't have much to compare it too because this is how thing shave been for me since I was a kid LOL). It will get better. It will!

cinnamonamon~OOohh, baby is coming soon, huh? How exciting. Thinking of you and sending easy labor vibes your way.

Violet can jump with both feet, she doesn't get very far off the ground, but she tries. SHe does climb on EVERYTHING though! She jumps off the arm of the couch! Scared the crap out of me. She goes up and down stairs mostly one at a time, but sometimes does one foot per stair if holding onto something.
SHe is talking up a storm! Putting words together now...and boy does she have opinions on everythign. She only wants to dress herself(and she can do it,socks too!), me do it! It's funny. Usually at night she'll get dressed and put her jacket on upside down and her boots on and try to go outside. LOL
SHe is really fun. And the looks she gives me sometimes! She has been talking to the baby in my belly, so cute. and she has been playing with her babies a lot and they "talk" to each other. I don't remember my other kids doing that at 2...
Anyway, loads of fun here.
