Induction today... UPDATE IN POST #11: or maybe not...

Last night my mw came out and checked me out- I'm well-effaced, not too dilated, but definitely getting there. Baby girl is head down and facing the RIGHT WAY (WOOOOOO HOOOOO! YOU GO GIRL!) their heart rates are fine and they still feel huge

However my BP was 150/90-ish all three times she took it, up from my norm of less than 120/70 this whole pregnancy... there was a bit of protein in my urine, and I had a raging headache all day yesterday... so the decision was made (after a phone conference with my other midwife and an exam of my nasty pitting edema in my right leg) that it's time for these bubs to come out. She stripped my membranes (OMG, no one ever told me how painful that was, I felt like there was a racoon chewing on my cervix!) and stretched me out a little. I WAS under a lot of stress yesterday, DH had minor carpal tunnel surgery and felt crappy most of the day, DD was being a terror and he couldn't help me much with her, so it's possible that the BP and headache were caused by that- but even so, the babies are BIG, I'm absolutely misery and the protein in the pee (I had ketones too... seems I just can't get enough food in lately to keep my blood sugar at a good level and myself nourished!) is worrisome... and I had DD at 36w5d too, which is just where I am today. I HATE inducing, I feel like a failure in a way and I know that it's not the BEST option... but we're ready, I'm ready, and the blood pressure thing really freaked me out especially with the swelling (my leg looks like a tree trunk, still.)

I just took my second dose of castor oil and am waiting for the good old potty train to come whisk me away into labor-land. I feel pretty good... crampy already (I was cramping all night from the membrane sweep anyway, but the castor oil seems to have intensified things whether it's psychological or what) and I just lost a nice chunk of mucus plug, but no toilet worshiping quite yet Plug loss makes me think I must be dilated to at least 3cm at this point since that's where I lost my plug with DD. the MW will be here around noon or 1, and at that point we'll assess where things are heading from there and maybe try other methods of getting things going, although I'm getting crampier by the minute. I am hoping my BP is down from last night so that's not a concern, either way.

My next update will, I'm hoping, be a birth announcement, one way or another. There's always a so-so chance that the induction/whatever (any induction, really) won't work and if that's the case I am praying hard that my BP stays at a manageable level and nothing else crappy happens so we can still have our homebirth, whenever the twins or ready. Good thoughts are welcome, of course :P (and hopefully these kids come out with nametags on, LOL)

I hope you are all well, I'll be back soon hopefully with news of our birth!

Don't feel like a failure! We talk a lot on here about induction and the fact that it's overused and done for the wrong reasons but maybe we haven't paid enough attention to the times when it could actually be helpful and necessary.
Be at peace and happy birthing! Can't wait to hear!

Completely agree with MotherWren.. There are definitely times when it is appropriate to induce.

I hope you have a wonderful easy birth and you get to stay home. Happy Birthing!!!

Update

The castor oil didn't do much, nor did the black and blue cohosh I was taking every 1/2 hour- I was having ctx irregularly, they never really got into a pattern and I was getting tired and not making a ton of progress past a certain point, so we decided to stop. still contracting but it's back to the level i was having them at pre-castor oil and b&b, so all is well and my body apparently knows what it's doing and doesn't want to be messed with, hehe.

I'm up to a "stretchier" 3cm and slightly more effaced, baby A has moved down. buttloads of bloody show and mucus, so i did make progress, but i hit a wall at 3cm and was getting tired and frustrated internally with the irregular, only slightly annoying and barely painful ctx. oh, and my BP was fine once again. silly BP.

i am super impressed with all three of my midwives (well, one is a student)- medwives they are certainly not! some would have suggested/pushed AROM, other stuff... they decided to stop it and either wait for labor or try again later. that's EXACTLY how i felt, so i was relieved and just really impressed- it's so different than other experiences- in a hospital i would have been c-sec'd or had pitocin 2 DA MAX by now (assuming i *wasn't* a vbac twin mom and all, of course.) the comparison isn't even one that can be made- the respect and kindness and hands-on-ness is awesome. it was an awesome dry run for the birth and i am super happy with everything at this point, and secretly almost relieved they didn't come today- i don't want people bugging me all weekend, YK?

anyway thank you all for the well-wishes... here's hoping these babies get the hint and come out soon, on their own

Aw I had the same results with castor oil and black and blue cohosh. After I stopped taking them, got some rest and relaxation time in, I woke up in labor the next night. Hopefully it'll work like that for you!

I had the same experience as DiD... took cohosh all weekend (mixed in fruit punch) and nada.. that was at 42 weeks. 2 nights later my water broke, after I had given up hope of ever goign into labor...

happy birthing to you!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, mama! Please please please babies, come out safely and vaginally if you can!

IKWYM about the tree trunk ankles. The worst part is peeing the water away afterwords. It's as bad as carrying twins.

Good luck, sweetie!

Oh good! It sounds like you are in a pretty good place. Thanks for the update and try to rest while you can

DreamsInDigital I LOVE your signature and may start actually saying that to people. I made the mistake yesterday of being honest with my MIL and BIL when they asked how I was doing.
Lol there was some awkward silence.
