Did pediatrician push to far?

Okay, so this has probably been posted before, and let me know if there is another thread I should go to.

BUT, the other day, the ped. retracted my 6 mo's foreskin, just a little. She knows that it is attached, and my son did not protest or anything. BUT, when I took a bath with him that night, it was a little red and irritated looking. It was only like that for a night, and gone the next morn.

Was that okay? I thought it should just be left alone. Could this slight pushback end up with him getting an infection? Anyone else had this happen?

It really pissed me off...I hope I am overreacting.

Thanks :

You aren't over reacting- she retracted him. The foreskin should not be pushed back at all.
There is a good sticky about retraction and why it's bad on the main CAC page.

She shouldn't have done any pushing back of the foreskin, period. You need to contact her and let her know that what she did harmed your son, if even only in a minor way -- it could have been much worse. There was no reason for her to retract your son's foreskin, and it's as unnecessary and as invasive as sticking something inside a baby girl's vagina.

Read the sticky at the top of the main CAC page A Warning To Parents Of Intact Sons" it is full of babies who were retracted like your son.

The #1 Rule with the intact penis is NEVER RETRACT, NEVER LET ANYONE RETRACT. Before the diaper even comes off say "I do not want you to touch his penis". If there is a problem of some sort with the penis be sure to tell them they are not allowed to pull back on the skin at all. And be prepaired to remove there hands yourself if it looks like they intend to pull it back at all. Me and a few other moms here have had to push a Dr/nurses had away.

She shouldn't even be touching his penis! At the next appointment tell her she is NOT to touch it. If she argues, the exam is immediately over and I would get a new doc.
