Plastic Concerns & Milk Storage?

I hve been storing pumped milk in the freezer in plastic breastmilk bags, but am concerned about plastic chemicals (bisphenol A, and others) getting into the milk when it is heated up . My MIL heats it in a bowl of hot water, then pours it into the bottle. How do you store your milk and heat it up? Any ideas that would eliminate heating the plastic? I thought of defrosting milk in the fridge, Im not a good judge of how much to defrost and I dont want to waste any of it. TIA!

If you freeze in small portions, like 2 ounces, you shouldn't lose too much to waste.

You can get glass bottles.

I store the milk in the bottles and then put the bottles in a ziploc bag in the fridge. My husband or mom warms up the bottles by putting them in hot water.

I think that the plastic bags might leach more than the bottles since the bottles are meant to be sterilized and heated. But I don't have anything to back that up with.

You could try these:

I have seen them at Whole Foods.

I use the Born Free bottles. I guess I will just need to be more on top of defrosting the milk the night before for the next day in the fridge. That seems to get the best bet. I really want to avoid heating up the plastic bags. Thanks ladies!

I use glass bottles exclusively. I had the same concerns about plastic so decided to give glass a try and it's worked out great! I pump directly into the glass bottle then freeze them. To defrost, I put the bottle in a cup and let hot water run over it in the sink until it warms up.

Thats interesting, you pump into glass bottles and are able to freeze them. What type of bottles are you using?
Thanks

JeaninetheOT- I PM'd you back...but just for info I use Evenflo Classics. One thing I forgot to mention is that of course you have to inspect them before each use but I've been putting them in the dishwasher and freezer for 6 months now and have not had ANY problems. Hope this helps!

I just try not to think about it. We use so much donor milk, and the SNS is plastic.... At least I don't have to heat the plastic- the milk defrosts in the fridge until sluchy and I trasfer it to a glass bottle or BornFree bottle.

Sometime before my next baby, I'll be trying to rig up a glass bottle system to use with the SNS cap/tubing.
