Moms of 10month old's-How often do you BF?

DS seems to be eating more and more solids, and nursing less and less. Right now he nurses on average about 5 times a day and we don't co-sleep so he doesn't nurse all night long either, though sometimes I am up A LOT! I guess I just need reassurance that he is getting what he needs and I am staying OFF the road to early weaning (or at least early to me!).
Thanks for any information!

All my dss were down to about 5 times a day when they were around 10 months. They also pretty much slept through the night. I'm sure he just gets what he wants more efficiently in fewer sessions so that he can go explore his world .

When my DD was 10mo she was nursing 3 times a day...yep, that's right!!! She was nursing in the morning, at naptime and bedtime. I was so afraid she was weaning too...but I believe that she was nursing at night (can't remember~we co-sleep)

Now she is 18mo and still nursing anywhere between 3 &6 times during the day, sometimes she nurses at night. But she is a big time eater, always has been....so I'm not too worried

My babies have always nursed the same amount from the time they are about 5 or 6 months straight through and then slowed down a bit in the number of nursings when they start walking (because they are so busy) ...so I'd say about 5 to 8 times a day ...some days less if we are out and about doing stuff....and then we co-sleep so about 2 times a night (I don't keep track of night feedings) but they also don't eat much solid food at all until they are about 14 months or so. I doubt your baby is getting ready to wean...it sounds like this is a pretty normal age to for babies to start being more busy during the day.

Hi Amie,

My 10 month old is nursing at least 8-10 times during the day and frequently at night, as well (we bed share).

He is about 26 lbs now and loves solid foods, too. He scarfs down tons of fruits, veggies, and tofu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I guess he's a big boy that likes to eat a lot. The funny thing is that I am about 95 lbs and pretty much sling carry him everywhere we go which must be a funny sight to see because people are constantly commenting on it. I always try to make note that his great weight gain must be due to 'mama's milk'

Keep offering and you should be fine. Good luck!

My 10 mo DD nurses about 4 or 5 times during the night (mostly in the hours before waking). We cosleep and it isn't a problem for me since I sleep through it anyways. During the day she has about 3 good feeds, I would say. In between there is comfort nursing, and nursing to sleep. One of these days I'll have to count, since I really don't keep track of it all. I do notice that she doesn't nurse much during the day anymore. She eats solids, but not a whole lot yet. She probably eats about one "meal" of solids a day. I'm trying to increase that (it's really a matter of me remembering to offer, lol) b/c I see no sign of weaning occurring any time soon, and I think it's important for me to introduce more things to her.
