Wrinkles & sunscreen

I think I'm finally breaking down and realizing the need to wear sunscreen. I've always avoided it mainly because: it's expensive, it's one more thing on my skin to clog my pores, it prevents Vit D synthesis from sunlight.

So I live in MN. You may have heard that the weather here is a little funky. My skin goes a little wacko trying to adjust to the extreme cold in the winter and the fairly extreme heat in the summer. Besides the problem with flakiness and break outs, I have fine lines around my eyes, on my forehead, the usual places. But I'm only 24?! Is it normal to get "fine lines" at my age?? It's really making me freak out. Hence the sunscreen decision. Anyone know of a good high SPF sunscreen and of any "miracle cure" to rid myself of these fine lines? Yes, I know I'm dreaming on that last one...

mz libbie, it's perfectly normal to have fine lines at 24. My mom told me that when I was in my twenties, I had lots of wrinkles. She's "honest". I didn't realize in my twenties that I have dry skin!!! I was still using my teen oil-free moisturizer. Since using oils and shea butter, my skin looks less wrinkled now at 34 than 24,though my vanity still keeps me on the look out.

I was reading up on shea butter. It sounds perfect for you. First of all, it is dense, so it protects and moisturizes, but I also found out that it has natural sun protection. Shea butter also naturally fights acne, so you don't have to worry about break outs. I also read that a moisturizer should have antioxidants in them. These will actually repair the skin. Something I just started using (literally since yesterday) is Avalon organics, Vitamin C lotion with sun block. I do layers. I use that with jojoba oil, and lastly shea butter. The cold does do damage to skin, so it's good to protect it. I think 24 is a perfect time to think about preventing wrinkles, that is if you're vain like me. I admit it. Then later you won't have to worry about it as much, you've already taken steps to prevent them.

I've gone back and forth on the sunscreen v. Vitamin D issue, and I've decided there are just too many good reasons to wear sunscreen. I generally only put it on my face and neck, though, and that's mainly for the wrinkle protection. I figure leaving my arms bare (and whatever else, depending on what I'm wearing or not wearing) will mean that I get enough Vit D from the sun.

I am rapidly approaching 27 and 24 is the age when I started to get some of those lovely lines. Especially on the bridge of my nose. I love the sun and remember making alot of silly faces at my nephew that year. I don't believe anything can reverse it, but I'm hoping that treating my skin more gently and slathering up with shea butter and jojoba oil will help the situation a little in the future. Because I'm sure making alot of those silly faces at my baby!

As for sunscreen, I was just thinking this morning that I believe I will get some for DD after some more research on the matter. That, and be sure to put a hat on her head. For me, I think I'll look into some of that Vitamin C cream! DH was on my case all last summer over this

Mollybeesmama. I'm pro sunscreen too. People from traditional cultures in my neighborhood do not go out in the summer sun. If their children do go out, they are vigilantly kept in the shade. I personally like to go to the beach and park and other places during the summer, but I feel that I should at least wear sunscreen. I do go without it if the sun's not too hot or if the area is shady. so I'm kind of moderate.

The vit c moisturizer is perfect. It is light, doesn't interfere with my oil and butter, and is just enough sun protection. I'll use a heavier one for the beach.
