Well, like I had explained before, had Desta been honest with me about the vacuum not working, we would have had her to contribute to the new vacuum fund and she would not have had enough money to buy the doll. I feel that we agreed to let her use the money for the doll without all of the relevant information, the main piece of that being, "Do you have enough money?"
Had we chosen to hold the doll until she earned back the money to pay for it, I wouldn't have seen it as my "preferred punishment." I would have seen it as the logical outcome of being irresponsible with the vacuum and therefore having to use the money she was hoping to spend on a doll on helping to buy a new vacuum.
