How to find a pediatric dentist & questions to ask

I am looking for a dentist for dd1 who is almost 3 years old. I found one about 45 min away and the receptionist said they were pro-breastfeeding (I also asked if they pushed nightweaning and she said no). She said they allow parents to stay in, but that they sometimes find the kids are "better" without the parents. I said I would not consider leaving the room and she said that would not be an issue. They only use non-mercury fillings.

Any other suggestions? What do you tend to say when you go in? I would tell them that they could only work on her teeth if she consented, and no flouride treatments but can you think of anything else? TIA.

I found one using the holistic dentist link mentioned on the healing cavities with nutrition thread. They do not use coercion with children and are ok not x-raying her, etc. In order to take an adult as a client they require x-rays, but they'll call me back and let me know if they are willing to work with no x-rays.

I called my local la leche league chapter as well as posted on my tribal area thread here at MDC. Getting good referrals saves so much time and heartache. Good luck!

Great ideas, thanks!

I really liked the sound of the one I called--they say they won't coerce or force a child, which is in line with my parenting philosophy. I find it horrifying that dentists ask parents to leave when the children are acting scared, or "uncooperative" in whatever ways.
