Will rinsing canned veggies reduce sodium

I have to admit we do tend to buy canned veggies quite a bit. They are so much cheaper. I usually rinse them before we eat them. Will this reduce the sodium content to a reasonable level to make it okay for a 13 month old to eat?

I really don't know the answer for all vegetables, I know it does a little for beans, but you could try getting some with reduced sodium too.

I think I would be most concerned about the lack of nutrition, canned foods have to be cooked at high heat which removes alot of the nutrients. Have you considered at least trying frozen? not as good as fresh but more nutritious than canned.

I had always thought it would - one other thing I'd heard was that if you drain off all the water from the can, and cook the veggies in fresh tap water, that will help too. Or you could get the reduced sodium variety.

DS loves canned green beans. So I hear you there!

Yes, rinsing them will help, but I agree with the PP that frozen are a better bet, nutritionally. But like the other PP's DS, I love canned green beans too. : Actually, I love all green beans.
