Encouraging Labor

Well the surgery I had on Monday did not work and the problem has already returned. It was meant to be a temporary fix to get me through the birth after which we would have to do something more permanent anyway. Unfortunately it didn't work and the problem is back to being almost as bad as before. It isn't really a pregnancy problem, except that it is painful and uncomfortable and there is nothing that can really be done for it while I am pregnant.

So my mw came over yesterday, and we discussed the situation and decided that it might be time to "encourage" my body to go into labor. The good part is that I am now 39w 2d and my oldest was born at 39w4d and my youngest at 38w3d (my middle was induced at 38 weeks) so probably will be going into labor soon anyway.

I did let her check me - and also gently strip my membranes. The good news is that all the BH ctx I have been having for the past few weeks have been working. I am a stretchy 2cm dialated, and she said if she really wanted to she could probably stretch me out to 4. I am also about 40% effaced and the baby is very low at a 0 to -1 station. (As an encouragement to others I never saw the mucous plug come out, which it obviously has). I know I could have been like this for weeks, and still could be for a few more weeks- but it was more to find out how amenable I might be to labor starting soon, and of course to strip the membranes.

So we aren't going to do anything drastic, and I am well aware that it might not work if baby isn't ready, but we are just trying to encourage the baby that labor isn't such a bad thing. I took some laxatives last night (not castor oil- but something gentler) and they have kicked in this morning. My mw also gave me some herbal tea as well as some homeopathics. I also started doing some nipple stim, and saw an acupuncturist yesterday afternoon.

So hopefully that will be enough to help get things moving along. I am having lots of ctx, but was before as well - certainly nothing regular or all that painful.

What a trooper you are! I'm sorry about the unsuccessful surgery...while you are pregnant: But it sounds like you are prime for child birthin'! Hopefully little one will come on out asap!

I hope things kick in for you today!! It's my dad's birthday and I don't think my baby is coming today, but maybe someone else's will! Best of luck to you and keep in touch if you can!
