What is the best filling material?

My dd who will be 6 in July needs 4 cavities filled. I know amalgam is bad but what is the least toxic of all the filling materials: thank you, Crystal

Glass ionomer cement (used frequently as a temp filling) is very bio-compatible. You could try it for a small filling.

You could get ceramic or gold filling ($$$)... otherwise composite will be OK.

Hi there. Well, my hubby is a general dentist, not a pediodentist, but he always uses composite on the little ones. He says that the amalgam lasts longer and tends to "fall out" less often, but in a 4 year-old who doesn't have his adult teeth yet, he would not be worried about longevity.
