Okay...so my story in a nutshell (i'll try):

DD had to have her 4 upper front teeth pulled due to majory decay/cavities before she was even two. it was really traumatic. They had to sedate her. She couldn't nurse for over a full day. It was hell.

I NEVER want to go through that again.

She eats a pretty healthy diet. She get's a "sweet" (like ice cream) a couple times a month now, but she eats a pretty good diet otherwise! Lots of organic vegetarian foods. I am still nursing her (including at night, despite my pediatric dentist telling me i should wean :

So i brush her teeth at least one time a day...with fluoride toothpaste. Also, we recently had a compound pharmasist make up "pure fluoride" (just fluoride and water vs. the fluoride with all the parabens and fake flavors/colors. $20/mo!!! Totally insane.

Well, last dentist visit she had some cavatives (but dentist said nothing to worry about) and discoloration on her back bottom teeth and some upper teeth as well (mostly discoloration on uppers, but on the lower teeth i can actually see "holes").

I know fluoride is supposedly bad for people - but then again i've always heard the good things, and i come from a very cavity inflicted family (and okay, so I have a huge sweet tooth as well, i suck!) but i trust fluoride is bad so i am wanted to nix it in our lives.

We switched to all natural everything else...fluoride is kinda the last thing to boot.

I really need some information on why it is bad, and what can i do to help prevent further decay/cavities to my daughter. Oh, and pre-pulling her front teeth i never really brushed. Just wiped with a washcloth occassionally...and just this past week i've started brushing 3x's a day (only once with fluoride though...).

Also, like i said, she eats pretty healthy - but she does sometimes eat "lightly" sweetened organic cereals (with like, 9g sugar per serving) or eat 1/2 a luna bar or some horizon organic yogurt (that's got the most sugar...like 19g). She doesn't drink juice except on rare occassion. She only drinks water, breastmilk and unsweetened soymilk. If i make her "sweets" i use Xylitol.

Anyway...guess this is kinda long, lol...hope some of you read it all
TIA!!
